Juniors on the Move

Juniors on the Move is an introductory level program aimed at children aged between 7-14 years who can complete 9 holes on a modified golf course.

Juniors on the Move

Juniors on the Move (JOM) is the perfect introduction to competitive golf for children aged between 7 and 14.

Nine hole tournaments are held once a month across New South Wales and are ideal for kids who have completed golf clinic programmes and are now ready to take the next step up in their golfing development.

At JOM, children will learn how to play the game on a golf course, the rules of golf as well as the important ingredient of etiquette.

Children will receive an accredited Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) 9 hole handicap. They will use this handicap throughout the year and learn how the handicapping system works. Having a handicap gives the children an easily understandable guide to how their skill level is progressing. When they play well their handicap improves, thus providing an instant resource for encouragement and development.

While we support each players’ improvement, the underlying emphasis at Juniors on the Move is about playing golf in a fun and supportive environment.

Prizes are awarded at every tournament and there are also opportunities for further development through our complimentary School Holiday clinics run by golfing professionals.

The Juniors on the Move handicapping system is recognised by the Primary School Sports Association and other golfing bodies as an official 9 Hole Handicap for Juniors, allowing them to play in school golf events and State Carnivals. Juniors on the Move had almost 300 registered players in 2019 and is the first step in the world recognised Jack Newton Junior Golf development pathway.

Children progress through our junior programmes then on to the more elite post junior events and programmes conducted by Golf NSW. You can see our development pathway by clicking HERE

At JNJG, we have several levels of Juniors on the Move, enabling us the ability to group the participants, ensuring a balanced playing environment.

In Sydney, due to large playing numbers we have Juniors on the Move PUPS – which is targeted at younger children aged 7 and up who have a basic skill level and have had minimal play on a golf course.

We also host Juniors on the Move TOUR – which is the next step up from PUPS. The TOUR consists of graduates from the PUPS programme as well as older aged children, approximately 10 years and above who have had minimal play on a golf course.

In the regional centres, with smaller playing numbers, all children play on the same day but are still ability grouped.

Please note however, that while ability and skill is important in determining which level to place children in, at JNJG, we try and balance the improvement requirements of each child with the important and necessary aspect of allowing children to socialise with those of a similar age.

Juniors on the Move is run across several regions in New South Wales as outlined below.
