Once your time as a junior comes to an end new exciting golf opportunities may arise. Please see below information on some golf programs that may assist you beyond your junior years.

NSWIS

Golf was first included in the NSW Institute of Golf Program in 1997 and was under the directorship of former State Coaching Director, Peter Knight until the end of 2006.

Glenn Whittle has now taken over the reigns and leads the program as Head Coach.

Elite players from New South Wales between the ages of 17 and 23 years are invited to apply for a position in the program each year. They should be of at least State squad level and must intend becoming professionals or international level amateurs. The maximum handicaps are men: 4 and females:7. Applicants must not be full time students as demands of full time study would detract from the program.

In accepting a scholarship a player must:

  • Work with NSWIS Head Coach and relevant NSWIS staff to identify 3 and 5 year playing career development plans and goals.
  • Participate fully in assessment procedures conducted by NSWIS technical, personal and scientific staff.
  • Work with NSWIS nutritionist to develop effective personalised nutritional guidelines and body composition targets (in conjunction with NSWIS Sports Science staff).
  • Keep a training diary including full details of all technical practice and physical work done. Presented for discussion at monthly meeting.
  • Return all round analysis results to NSWIS Head Coach within one week of competition.
  • Attend all compulsory sessions (lectures, strength testing, squad practice, etc.).
  • Train in the gym 3 times a week when at home.
  • Complete skills tests as scheduled in own time.
  • Complete and update tournament preparation workbooks (including course scouting, event goals and game plan development sections) for at least all NSWIS funded events.
  • Attend at least one meeting per month with NSWIS Head Coach, relevant NSWIS staff, and perhaps Home Coach in relation to round analysis, skills tests and training diary information (this will determine training plans and work loads for the next month).
  • Work on all aspects of their game and any relevant personal competencies identified as being below the standard required to achieve and support their career goals.
  • Recognise and promote NSWIS and Clubs NSW and programme sponsors whenever possible.
  • Wear NSWIS uniform at all NSWIS funded events and activities and provide NSWIS with maximum exposure at all other times.

These commitments will entail at least one formal Head Coach contact or activity involvement per week.
