2018 JNJG Tournament Calendar

(Monday 30th October, 2017)

The exciting and new look JNJG Tour Calendar is now out for 2018 with a couple of big changes!!!

For the very first time in the 30 years of Jack Newton Junior Golf running tournaments for juniors in NSW, the 12 Years and Under Age Group will not be the youngest Age Division at a JNJG event. As a result of more and more juniors getting introduced to the game at a younger and younger age, Jack Newton Junior Golf will be adding an 11 Years Division, as well as a 10 Years and Under Division, to the majority of our events.

At the recent Jack Newton International Sub-Junior Classic, 7 Year Old Matthew Xu became the youngest ever competitor in a Major JNJG Event. Playing on a 30 handicap, Matthew completed all four rounds at Cessnock GC WITHOUT a Caddy, even managing a Nett 71 in the final round.

For many years now, JNJG has run a Stableford division for kids on a handicap of more than 20 at the Junior Masters Series Events, however in 2018, these divisions will be replaced by an 11 Years and Under Division. The juniors in the 11 Years and Under Division will play a shortened course to the rest of the field, whilst they will also have the advantage of a "bag pusher" to help get around the 18 holes.

There will also be a significant change to the first JNJG Major of the year, with the Harvey Norman Week of Golf being given National Ranking Status by Golf Australia and moving to the magnificent Royal Canberra GC in the A.C.T for the first time. 120 (90 Boys and 30 Girls) of the best golfers from around the country (with a sprinkle of international players as well) are expected to take part in the A.C.T Harvey Norman Week of Golf, with entries closing and the final field decided by a handicap ballot on Friday 8th December, 2017.

The Sydney Harvey Norman Week of Golf remains the same format, with players competing over four consecutive days on four different courses in Sydney’s North West. Lynwood, Stonecutters Ridge, North Ryde and Muirfield will each host a day this year with more than 150 players expected to take part. It will be the first time the new Age Divisions are launched for the 11 Years and Under players which will create a new dimension to the 72 hole event. The tournament will also see JNJG launch a new Club Competition concept, with all clubs encouraged to enter as many players as possible from their club to form a team to take out the Harvey Norman Interclub challenge (more details on this format to come).

Entries for both the A.C.T Week of Golf and Sydney Week of Golf will open this week.

The other January tournament see the JNJG NSW team looking to make it 10 wins in a row in the annual State of Origin clash against Junior Golf Queensland. The tournament will be held at Pelican Waters on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland in Mid-January, with the 6 boys and 6 girls to represent JNJG announced at the JNJG Sponsors Dinner in early December.

The NSW Junior Championships moves a little further away from Sydney in 2018 and 2019, with Belmont GC and Charlestown GC in the Newcastle District hosting the event in the first week of the July School Holidays as normal. The event remains both a GA National Ranking and WAGR World Ranking Event and played in the same format as previous editions, with all players who make the Cut competing in the final two rounds of the NSW Junior Championships at Charlestown GC and all players who miss the cut playing for the Plate Division Titles at Belmont GC.

The Jack Newton International Junior Classic will remain in the Hunter Valley in the September / October School Holidays, with Cypress Lakes and Cessnock set to host the event once again. A record field of more than 370 players from 10 countries and every state and territory took part in 2017, with those numbers set to be smashed in 2018 with the addition of the 11 Years and 10 Years and Under age groups at Cessnock GC. The Fayde Junior Matchplay is set to be played in the same school holidays at the Mt Broughton Golf and Country Club, with the date and format still to be confirmed.

The Jack Newton Junior Masters Series continues to grow, with eight events locked in and discussions still happening to add a 9th Junior Masters event to the busy schedule. Just about every district in NSW will be reached giving kids from across the state a chance to compete in a local JNJG event, with events taking place in the Riverina (Wagga Wagga), Central West (Bathurst), Northern Rivers (Ballina), Illawarra (Links Shell Cove), Lower North Coast (Kew), South-West Sydney (Campbelltown and Camden), Far South Coast (Catalina) and A.C.T Monaro (Goulburn). After a successful trial to the Macarthur Junior Masters in 2017, the event will expand even further in 2018 with all players competing at both Campbelltown and Camden Golf Clubs.

The long JNJG season concludes with the event that every junior in NSW spends all year trying to qualify for, with the invite-only Bonville Champions Trophy at the amazing Bonville Golf Resort set to be played in early December.
