During early December this year three clubs contested the first Tyro Shield event held in the Northern Sydney Beaches area. Bayview had two teams , Long Reef had one and Warringah fielded a team as well. Played over a shortened 9 holes, with special rules, the under 12 kids had a great time actually playing on the golf courses. Parents and supporters got involved with caddying and raking bunkers, making sure that the play continued at a steady pace. There were many great shots played and several bogies were scored. The target for next time is to see a few pars made. A big thanks to Neil from Bayview, Rob from Warringah and Les and Danny from Long Reef who made the event work well. Everyone involved was keen to do it again before the end of March 2017.

This event is designed to get our beginner golfers on the course playing in a competitive situation against kids of their own ability. It should be viewed as a stepping stone to the Encourage Shield.

After the three rounds, over three weekends, Bayview Blue had won the most matches, just beating Long Reef and Bayview Green.
