Kyriacou Crowned 2020 Geoff King Motors Australian Ladies Classic Champ

Sunday was a day that will not soon be forgotten by the Kyriacou family as well as all of us at Jack Newton Junior Golf.  Former junior Steph Kyriacou etched her name in fantastic fashion when she claimed the title of 2020 Geoff King Motors Australian Ladies Classic Champion.

Following in the footsteps of Minjee Lee and Aaron Baddeley, Steph added her name to the list of Australian amatuer winners of professional events.  With four sub par rounds finishing with an incredible score of 22 under par and an 8 shot victory, Steph was certainly head and shoulders above the rest of the field.

We asked our former junior exactly how she was feeling as she walked down that final hole.

"On the last, I was surprisingly comfortable. I think it was because I knew I had the lead by a few shots. There were still the nerves but I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I would be," Steph said.

Steph has certainly come a long way since her junior golf days but we have watched her golf game progress to where she is today.

In 2011 Steph began her JNJG tournament journey when she competed and finished in 3rd at the State Junior Medals.  She continued on the JNJG junior golf pathway for the next 7 years.  She played in countless Junior Masters Series as well as numerous JNJG Majors.  She won many titles including the NSW Junior Championship in 2016.  She was a member of many JNJG development squads as well as Golf NSW junior girls teams, which won the Australian Interstate Series.

Steph represented JNJG at both interstate and international events.  Her experience over many years of junior golf has enable her to prepare for golf after juniors.

"Being in JNJG was a huge part of my childhood. I remember counting down the days to an event because I was so excited to be able to play real tournaments and meeting new people was amazing. All the development programs and being sent away places gave me an idea of what that next step was going to be like eg. Bigger amatuer events and pro events," Steph said.

All of the staff and board of Jack Newton Junior Golf are always so proud to see our junior golfers go on to achieve great things on and off the course and Steph is a glowing example of this.  We believe in giving our juniors as many opportunities for them to grow and develop as possible and if we can equip them with the experience to succeed later in life then we have done our job.

Steph is just one of the many former JNJG members that are thriving and we are so proud of each and every one of them and all of their successes.
