Pilot Program for Kurri Kurri School Kids

Kurri Kurri Public School recently completed a sporting schools pilot program with Jack Newton Junior Golf.

The program provided allowed staff and students to experience golf under the soon to be launched Federal Government Initiative “Sporting Schools.”

Each student participated in a five week program allowing them to test their skills at golf.  The weekly program saw students learn the basics of golf; game play, skills, knowledge, fitness and the opportunity to play on a real golf course with the final week session held at Kurri Kurri Golf Club.

Once again it was great to see the enthusiasm of students, as most had never tried golf before.  They enjoyed the variety of games and skills learned before testing these skills at Kurri Golf Club.

Linking the school with the local golf club and encouraging the students to join the weekly junior program at the club underpin the success of the program.

The assistance of club officials David Parkinson (Captain) and Club Professional Leigh Newman helped the students confidence and could result in students visiting the club more.
