2016 SSACT 12 and Under Golf Championships

After what must be weeks of miserable golfing weather in Canberra we had the perfect day for the Schools Sport ACT 12 & Under Golf Championship at Murrumbidgee Country Club (MCC) on Thursday 28 July 2016.

Conditions were not friendly, with a very heavy track and absolutely no run on the course for the competitors. The greens, however, were spectacular, providing a smooth and consistent surface all round.

MCC was very pleased to host six girls and 13 boys competing in the major event, and six sub-juniors in the sub-junior event.

Up and coming junior girl, Silka Solomon from Yowani Country Club performed outstandingly and took first place by 3 shots from Rodaylin Mina, Canberra Girls Grammar School. There were two newcomers, Kasha Solomon and Amber Tilley, to the championship ranks, having gained their handicaps in recent months. Congratulations girls.

Murrumbidgee junior, Rowan Harrison capitalised on his home course advantage and romped in an amazing 9 over par, 81 to take out his first schools golf championship. This was Rowan’s best ever score by 9 shots. As with the girls, there were two boys, Harry Whitelock and Nathan White, who moved up from the sub-juniors to the Championship event this year. Congratulations on getting your handicap boys.

The SSACT 12 & Under representative team will be selected and announced in September 2016. The team will travel to Murray Bridge in South Australia to compete in the National Event.

The overall results for the day were:

Boys Championship Gross Champion Rowan Harrison Marist 81
