2016 Emma De Groot Scholarship Awarded

The De Groot Scholarship has been kindly donated by the De Groot family from Coffs Harbour over the last few years. The scholarship is awarded to a junior girl in the WGCNC district (Woolgoolga to Bulahdelah) to support them financially to develop their game of golf. The financial assistance given each year can be used to either buy equipment, or used for golf lessons etc. to assist in their development. The De Groot's have had their own daughter Emma progress from a junior in the CNC district to now being a professional on the LPGA tour. They understand the commitment required from parents to support their child to develop their game of golf and this is their way of giving back to the sport and the CNC district whilst Emma was a junior.

Last weekend the scholarship was awarded to Pyper Hollis (Kew) after participating in the Wingham Junior Girl Golf Camp.

Pyper has been a supporter of our camps for a number of years, and over the last couple has started attending the JNJG events around the State.

Pyper started as a beginner and now has her handicap down to 12. Pyper’s Tournament results for the year to date have been :

  • Girls 15 years and under - Nett Winner at Wagga Wagga [76/73]
  • Girls 14/15 years Nett runner up at Bathurst [73/71]
  • Girls 14/15 Nett runner up at Ballina [68/77]
  • NSW All Schools Championships - Rounds of 88/85 for a Total of 173 (Placed 20th in Gross & 4th in Nett)
  • Has been selected in the NSW Catholic Schools Team to compete in the upcoming All Schools Team Championships in Tamworth

I believe she is a worthy recipient for this prestigious award and a great ambassador for the sport.

Catherine Robinson, Junior Coordinator WGCNC
