Three Divisions of Junior Pennants in 2014

Twenty teams will compete in the 2014 Metropolitan Junior Pennant this year. Starting more than 60 years ago, it provides a great opportunity to Sydney golf clubs to enter a team of their best juniors in a prestigious interclub event. Last year Bayview Golf Club won the Pennant, and became the first club to win it with a girl in the team. The conditions had been changed to allow girls to play and several clubs included a young lady. It is great to see more involvement from the girls.

This year there are three divisions, one with six teams and two with seven teams. The division winners will be seeded and the top seed will go straight to the final, with the other two playing off in a semi final to go through to the final, which will be played on Sunday 14th September.

The format this year is six players, no reserve, numbers 1 and 2 compete in a scratch match play format, while the remaining four players play handicap match play.

One of the great benefits is that this event gives the juniors the opportunity to play on courses that they may not normally be able to play on.

The winner will be invited to participate in the State Junior Pennant which involves many teams from across NSW competing in a knockout series, culminating in four teams playing off at Newcastle Golf Club for the State Junior Pennant Title.
