JNJG Update on Covid-19 (Coronavirus)

(3:00pm – Tuesday 31st March 2020)

**Update**

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and following the lead from the World Health Organisation (WHO), Australian Government Department of Health and NSW Ministry of Health (NSW Health), Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) has today decided to extend the postponement of all upcoming JNJG sanctioned events as the government restrictions on outdoor activities and in particular golf courses tighten further.

After initially postponing all tournaments through to the end of the April School Holidays, JNJG will be extending this postponement through to Tuesday 30th June 2020. There will be no sanctioned JNJG Tournament taking place anywhere in NSW until the end of June.

As a result, the North Coast Junior Masters at Kew Country Club (May 16/17) and the Macarthur Junior Masters at Campbelltown & Camden Golf Club’s (June 7/8) have officially been postponed. All Juniors on the Move competitions, right across New South Wales, have also been postponed until the end of June.

In addition to this announcement, JNJG would also like to provide an update on the 2020 NSW Junior Championships, scheduled for Byron Bay GC and Ocean Shores CC in the first week of the July School Holidays.

Whilst the tournament itself has not yet been postponed and we’re hopeful that the JNJG Tournament Calendar can resume on July 1, we have decided that even if this event is to go ahead, it won’t be played at Byron Bay and Ocean Shores in 2020. With the uncertainty of what is happening and no set timeline for when things are to return to normal, it wasn’t fair on the two host clubs and it’s staff and volunteers, the people involved in the Northern Rivers District Golf Association, or the JNJG family to plan a trip to the Northern Rivers that may never go ahead.

To ensure that the Northern Rivers is not going to miss out, we’re happy to announce today that the NSW Junior Championships will return to Byron Bay and Ocean Shores with the clubs to host the tournament in 2021 & 2022 and we can’t wait to show people from all over Australia how beautiful this part of NSW is, when no one is thinking or worried about Coronavirus!!

No decision has yet been made on a new venue, format or date for the NSW Junior Championships, however we will let everyone know as soon as we do.

This situation continues to be both unprecedented and complex, with JNJG making the decision to ensure the health and well-being of not only our junior members and their families, but the health and well-being of the golf club staff and volunteers (many of which include older club members), as well as the JNJG staff and volunteers, set to be involved in running these tournaments.

As we move forward, JNJG will provide regular updates on the status of our upcoming tournaments and we encourage you to keep up to date with the latest Coronavirus Information which is readily available on the NSW Health Website.

Stay safe, stay isolated, and we’ll see you fit and healthy on the other side when this is all over!!

JNJG Statement on Covid-19 (Coronavirus) & Office Closure

(3:00pm - Monday 16th March 2020)

As a result of the Covid-19 outbreak and following the lead from the World Health Organisation (WHO), Australian Government Department of Health and NSW Ministry of Health (NSW Health), Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) has today made the difficult decision to postpone all JNJG sanctioned events, effective immediately, between now and Thursday 30th April, 2020.

These events include;

Juniors on the Move – April 23rd – (Sydney Pups)
Juniors on the Move – April 26th – (Sydney Pups & Tour)

JNJG will work with all host clubs over the coming weeks to find appropriate dates to reschedule these postponed tournaments.

At this stage, it is expected the JNJG Tournament Calendar will resume from Friday 1st May, however this will be monitored and updated as the Pandemic unfolds.

Whilst the JNJG Tournaments themselves are considered to be low risk, the decision has been made to assist authorities in “slowing the spread” of the virus, something that both the WHO and NSW Health have been actively trying to promote.

This situation is both unprecedented and complex, with JNJG making the decision to ensure the health and well-being of not only our junior members and their families, but the health and well-being of the golf club staff and volunteers (many of which include older club members), as well as the JNJG staff and volunteers, set to be involved in running these tournaments.

As we move forward, JNJG will provide regular updates on the status of our upcoming tournaments and we encourage you to keep up to date with the latest Coronavirus Information which is readily available on the NSW Health Website.

JNJG Office Closure
