Meet the New Girls on the Block….

The Central Southern Golf Association (CSGA) were pleased to partner with Teaching Professional, Joanne Mills to hold a 5 week CSGA MyGolf program for girls during term 4.  The Canberra International Golf Centre at Narrabundah provided the perfect facility for the girls to learn putting, chipping, hitting, bunker and game play.  The last session brought all the skills together on the Pitch n Putt course.

This program forms one component of the CSGA’s commitment to junior girls golf in our region.  Over the years opportunities have been provided for young girls to make a start in the game, mainly through running annual girl specific golf days, facilitating the provision of coaching, competition and mentoring for non-affiliated girls (those without Golf Australia handicaps).  Financial support of affiliated junior girls is also achieved by providing girls’ prizes in local junior tournaments, and funding for representative teams, travel expenses and tournament entry.

This recent program has welcomed 6 girls and their families to our golfing community.  Sophie, Sophia, Alyssa, Isabella, Kira and Eleanor were aged between 5 and 10 years.  The girls commented on how much fun they had had during the five weeks and thanked Joanne for her great coaching.  We had a small get together and presentation at the end of the program where the girls were awarded their certificate of achievement.

We will be hosting other golfing activities for girls in 2017 and trust these girls will now have the confidence to join the rest of our wonderful junior girls.

The CSGA greatly appreciate the support of Joanne Mills and the Canberra International Golf Centre.  Thank you to parents and grandparents who came along each week and encouraged their daughter.
