2017 Mollymook Junior Open

The Mollymook Junior Open got underway on a cold and windy day at the Hilltop Golf Course. The course was in pristine condition with the greens running fast.

The 40 players took to the course with nerves, excitement and anticipation. The field of juniors from across NSW and the ACT were quickly finding out just how tough the Hilltop layout can be, especially when you add some wind and slippery greens.

Despite these tough conditions some of the players were able to stay tough and return fantastic scores.

The overall Girls Champion for 2017 was Kelsey Bennett with a scratch score of 79 ahead of Kirra Greer (Nowra) and Ellen Peng (Liverpool). It was fantastic to see Kelsey return to Mollymook not only to play in the event but to help and inspire the next generation of female golfers.

The Boys championship proved a tough battle with eventual winner Luke Taylor prevailing with a 77. Only four shots behind Luke was 12 year old Jye Halls who shot an impressive 81 to take second place. The nett division was taken out by Castle Hill's Ryan Fletcher with a great score of 69, two shots ahead of William Bromley from the Kiama.

The Under 18 event was taken out by Dillon Granger (Mollymook GC) with 86, 8 shots clear of Jacob Bugden (Royal Canberra). The Nett Champion was Jacob Bowgett (Monash GC) with an 86.

In the Under 15 division Jack Macdonald (Shellharbour) returned an impressive 82 to win the scratch beating Lachlan Barr (Mollymook) by 1 stroke. Blake Halls (Mollymook) was the Nett winner with 75, 3 shots ahead of Eddie Ward (Port Kembla GC) on 78.

In the Boys Stableford division Riley Bowman (Mollymook) returned a very impressive 33 points to take the title by 8 shots over Ian Thomset (Catalina) on 25.  Third position went to Yashwant Pillay (Liverpool) on 23.

It was great to see so many young players competing for the 9-hole division this year and there was a lot of talent on display from these young players.

The 9 Hole division was taken out by Daniel Marsden with a superb round of 54. Just four shots behind Daniel was Chad Beehag on 58.

In the Nett section Callum Heywood returned a score of 47 to win by one stoke of Jayden Hoang-Ngo on 48.

A huge thank you goes out to the generous support of our sponsors for this year’s event; Milton IGA, Ulladulla Macdonald’s, South Coast Business and Financial Solutions and the Far South Coast District Golf Association.
