2014 Peter O'Malley Junior Masters - Bathurst Golf Club
In thrilling fashion Bonnie Doon’s Austin Bautista has claimed the Boys Overall Championship at the 2014 Peter O’Malley Junior Masters at the Bathurst Golf Club. Austin began round two three shots off the pace but with a stunning opening nine of 4 under par he became the new tournament leader. A back nine stumble allowed round one leader Mitchell Norbis (Concord) to get back into contention. A birdie at the last appeared to win it for Bautista, before Norbis answered back with a birdie of his own to force a playoff, but it wasn't enough as Austin closed it out on the first playoff hole.
In the Girls Championship Olivia Molino (Concord) was too strong for the competition and with a final round of 76 claimed the Championship by 3 shots ahead of Cumberland’s Kura Poko and Cumnock’s Chloe McCarthy.
This event also included an Inter-Academy Challenge, regional academies of sport from all across NSW entered teams of four and submitted the best two scratch scores and the best nett score each round. The team of Harrison Keomoungkhoun, Blake Borton, Timothy Ryan and Mitchell Jason from the South West Sydney Academy of Sport recorded the lowest score after two days of competition narrowly edging out the team from the Illawarra Academy of Sport. With a final field of 183 junior golfers, this event was a huge success and the Bathurst Golf Club provided an excellent challenge for all of our juniors. Peter O’Malley made a special appearance for the final presentation and the Boys playoff, which added to the excitement of the event.
