2014 Junior Pennant Final

The NSW Golf Club at La Perouse, ranked in the top 50 golf courses in the world, was the venue for this year’s Junior Pennant final between Avondale GC and Penrith GC. This magnificent golf course is renowned for its majestic clubhouse and picturesque views, as well as intimidating rough, fast greens and strong winds. Sunday 14th September turned out to be one of the best weather days seen in a long time. The wind was slight from the north west, the sun was shining, not a cloud to be seen, and Junior Pennants had the first tee from 7:00am. After a few team photos, Avondale won the toss and chose to take the honour.

The final was played in twos, with each pairing having an independent referee controlling the match. There was a good group of supporters from both clubs and although the players may have been a bit nervous, all got their tee shots away without any problems. In the early stages, Penrith were playing well and lead in most matches, but by the turn, Avondale was just in front in three matches, Penrith lead two and there was one match square. The wind strength had increased a little but it was still relatively calm for NSW GC. On the back nine Avondale proved to be a bit more experienced and played very well in four matches, eventually taking out the event four matches to two.
