School Sport ACT 12 Years and Under Golf Championships and 2015 Representative Team Announcement

School Sport ACT (SSACT) held a very successful Golf Championship on Thursday 17 September 2015, hosted by Fairbairn Golf Club.

This year, for the very first time, SSACT endorsed the selection of a representative team in this age group to participate in the School Sport Australia National Golf Championships to be held in Newcastle, NSW from 1-5 November 2015.

The work done to achieve this opportunity for our younger golfers is gratefully acknowledged.  Thank you to Liz Yuen Operations Manager SSACT, Chris Jones SSACT Golf Coordinator, and Kerry Bryant SSACT Golf Team Manager 2015.  As with any tournament, there is significant work done to ensure all goes well on the day.  Assistance was provided by Fairbarin Golf Club, JNJG, Mary-Ann Wall-Fairbairn Golf Club, Pauline Jeffrey-CSGA, Gail Goiser-ACT Monaro DGA, Jordana Keaton, Madeleine and Joshua Hunter-Erindale College, Brett Levier-Calwell High, Ginninderra College students, and parents is sincerely appreciated.

For 2015, we had an increase in the number of golfers holding Golf Australia (GA) handicaps, particularly in the girl’s section.  Statistically, this year there was a 133% increase in the number of girls, and 80% increase in the number of boys participating with GA handicaps.  There were 6 girls and 19 boys participate in the non-handicap section of the event.  All non-handicap participants had been involved in golf either through clinics at school, golf clubs or playing golf with their parents.

It was a pleasure to watch the friendship, sportsmanship and commitment of the students toward their playing partners, the course and their golf.  Congratulations to all that participated.

The Championship was played over 18 holes of stroke play.  The non-handicap competitors participated in putting, chipping and hitting activities and played 9 holes of golf, with results determined by the Callaway system.  Results are as follows.
