2018 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf

 

Amy Chu and Chris Fan - Champions at Royal

(Thursday 4th January, 2018)

Amy Chu (The Australian) and Chris Fan (Avondale) have run away with the first ever Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf, both winning comfortably at Royal Canberra GC. 

Chu fired a final round 71, to go with her two under par 72 in the morning, to finish at seven under par and eight shots clear of Sophie Yip (Concord). Chu was fantastic all week, recording an impressive 18 birdies throughout the tournament and never gave her rivals a chance. 13 Year Old Yip was also brilliant, finishing second at one under par in her best JNJG performance to date. Yip finished 12 shots clear of the next best, South Coast girl Kelsey Bennett (St Michael's) flying up the leaderboard on the final day to finish third in her final JNJG event.

Chris Fan (Avondale) was also impressive in the Boys Division, shooting a final round 70 to also finish the tournament under par. Fan made 19 birdies in total for the week to win by eight shots, with Corey Lamb (Concord) and Connor Whitelock (Byron Bay) sharing second place at six over par. Lamb birdied the first playoff hole to beat the impressive Whitelock to claim the Boys 16 Years Division, with Lachlan Jones (Concord) and Jeffrey Guan (The Australian) also impressive in winning the Boys 15 Years and Boys 14 Years and Under titles respectively.

18 Down, 18 to go at Royal Canberra

Amy Chu (The Australian) has opened up a four shot lead over Sophie Yip (Concord) with 18 holes to go at the 2018 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf. Both girls shot two under par 72's in the morning round and are back on course for the final round.

Local boy Adam Thorp (Federal) and Sydney's Chris Fan (Avondale) will take a share of the lead into final round of the Boys Division, even par through the opening 54 holes. They lead playing partner Corey Lamb (Branxton) by four shots, with a host of challengers lined up behind them.

Long Day Commences at Royal Canberra

The 45 boys and 15 girls who survived the 36 hole cut at the 2018 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf have teed off and the third round is underway at Royal Canberra.

Chu and Fan Lead With 36 Hole Shootout to Come

(Wednesday 3rd January, 2018)

Amy Chu (The Australian) has maintained a two shot lead in the Girls Division after the second round of the 2018 Harvey Norman Week of Golf at Royal Canberra GC. Chris Fan (Avondale) leads local boy Adam Thorp (Federal) by one stroke in the Boys after a superb 69 on Wednesday.

Chu shot an even par 74 on Wednesday, making four birdies in her round for the second straight day. The big mover on day two was Monica Johnson (The Australian), with the 16 year old firing the round of the day and low round of the tournament so far to get back to level par for the event. Johnson had four birdies and an eagle in the second round, finishing with a two under par 72 despite a double bogey on the 9th. They'll be joined in the final group on Thursday by youngster Sophie Yip, two shots further back after the 13 year old from Concord had a 76 in the second round.

The girls cut fell at +16, with 15 players on that score or better. The girls who missed the cut have the option to play a seperate competition on Holes 19-27 on Thursday, with tee times posted below.

Fan and Thorp have opened up three shot lead on the chasing pack heading into the final 36 holes on Thursday. Fan had six birdies in the second round, a three under par back nine propelling him to the top of the leaderboard. Thorp backed up his opening round 71 with another on Wednesday, remaining the only player in the 120 strong field with back to back under par rounds. Sharing third are Concord members Corey Lamb and Lachlan Jones, four shots off the lead at one over par.

The boys cut fell at +17, with 46 players on that score or better. The boys who missed the cut have the option to play a seperate competition on Holes 19-27 on Thursday, with tee times posted below.

The second round is underway at Royal Canberra GC as the elite field of juniors battle to make the halfway cut of the tournament. The top 45 boys and 15 girls will qualify for the final 36 holes to be played on Thursday.

Packed Leaderboard After Opening Day in the A.C.T

(Tuesday 2nd January, 2018)

After a fantastic opening round of the 2018 A.C.T Week of Golf at the magnificent Royal Canberra GC, a bunched leaderboard means an exciting week awakes in the nations Capital.

Whilst no one was able to dominate the course, three boys managed to break par on the opening day to take a share of the lead. One of them was local boy Adam Thorp (Federal), who picked up four birdies in his final eight holes to storm to the top!! He shares the lead with JNJG regulars Corey Lamb (Branxton) and Kieron Ryan (St Michaels) who also managed to handle to tough course and finish the opening day under par. Chris Fan (Avondale) finished the day in outright fourth after an even par 72 that also included four birdies.

Amy Chu (The Australian) continued her recent run of hot form to take a two shot lead in the Girls Division. Chu has been in sensational form of late, and that continued at Royal Canberra with four birdies to take the lead from 13 Year Old Sophie Yip (Concord). The Sydney youngster also had four birdies in her round of even par with the Girls to have the early tee times on Wednesday.

At the completion of the second round, the top 45 boys and top 15 girls will make the cut and qualify for the final 36 holes on Thursday.

Draw Revealed for Opening Two Rounds

(Thursday 28th December, 2017)

The draw for the opening two rounds of the 2018 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf has been revealed, with a capacity field of 120 players set to tackle the challenging Royal Canberra layout in the first ever National Ranked Junior Event run by JNJG in the A.C.T.

Players will battle it out over the opening two days, aiming to make the cut and qualify for the final two rounds to be played on Thursday.

(Any late changes to these draws will be made on 31st December, and all players are encouraged to check the draw again after 2:00pm on this date because there is bound to be a late entry or late withdrawal)

Entries have closed for the Harvey Norman ACT Week of Golf and after a huge number of entries, we've had to ballot some of the players out of the field. To see if you made the handicap cut-off for the event at Royal Canberra, click here.

Tournament Information - A.C.T Week of Golf

(Monday 20th November, 2017)

Eligibility Criteria

The 2018 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf is a limited field event for juniors with only 120 players making the final field. Players must be 17 Years and Under, as of Tuesday 2nd January.

The top 90 boys and top 30 girls, based on the players exact handicap as of the tournament closing date (Friday 8th December, 2017) will be offered a position in the field.

Any player who doesn't qualify and gets balloted out of the 2018 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf is encouraged to play in the 2018 Harvey Norman Sydney Week of Golf, held in the North West suburbs of Sydney at the same time.

Handicap Guidelines

As this is the first time JNJG has run an event in this format before, we are unsure as to what the exact handicap cut-off will be to make the Top 90 Boys and Top 30 Girls. However, boys must be on a handicap of 9.0 or less to register and Girls must be on a handicap of 12.0 or less to submit an entry into this event.

Entries will close for this event on Friday 8th December, 2017 at 4:00pm and the the ballot for this event will be done at that time. JNJG will publish the field (and any reserves, in order) on the Friday evening.

Tournament Format

The 2018 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf is a 72 Hole stroke event and will be played over three days from Tuesday 2nd - Thursday 4th January, 2018. All players will complete the opening 36 holes on Tuesday and Wednesday (18 Holes each day) before a cut is made at the end of the second round.

The Cut

The Top 45 Boys and Top 15 Girls (plus ties, plus anyone within 10 shots of the lead) will make the cut and play the final 36 Holes on Thursday. All players who miss the cut will still get to play on the Thursday, competing in an 18 hole daily competition, also at Royal Canberra.

Tee Times

Round 1 (Tuesday) - Tee Times 7:00am -> 11:15am (1st Tee).
Round 2 (Wednesday) - Tee Times 7:00am -> 11:15am (1st Tee).
Round 3 (Thursday) - Tee Times from 7:00am -> 8:20am (1st and 10th Tee).
Round 4 (Thursday) - Tee Times from 12:15pm -> 1:30pm (1st and 10th Tee).

Entry List

Below is the list of Boys and Girls who have registered to play in the 2018 Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf. No player will be officially entered and registered for the tournament until Friday 8th December (the closing date for entries) when the Ballot of entries will be done.
