Gadd Makes his Move at Bonville

(Thursday 30th November, 2017)

Josh Gadd (Concord) has fought back from a huge deficit to take the lead heading into the final round of the 2017 Bonville Champions Trophy. Amy Chu (The Australian) continues to lead the girls after her third straight round of 71.

Trailing overnight leader Jordie Garner (Castle Hill) by as many as seven shots after a triple bogey early in his third round, Gadd bounced back with six birdies and an eagle to storm to the front. The Penrith 18 Year Old, playing in his final junior event, finished with a two under par 70 and a one shot lead. Garner, who was in cruise control for much of the tournament, had five bogies and two double bogies in the afternoon, dropping seven of those shots in a five hole stretch from the 12th. He bounced back with a huge up and down on the 17th, before an eagle on the 18th hole narrowed the margin. Joining them in the final group is Ballina boy Kyle Underwood, whose round of 69 was only the second sub-70 round of the week.

Amy Chu (The Australian) has a slightly larger lead in the girls division, firing a one under par 71 for the third straight time. The 17 Year Old had three birdies in Thursday's third round, building a four shot lead over Belinda Ji. It could have been even more, but the Concord youngster fought hard, picking up five birdies on Thursday. Chloe Thornton recovered from a poor second round with a one over par 73 to sit in third place.

The cut fell in the Boys at +16 with 17 players at that score or better, whilst the Girls cut fell to +20, with Claire Shin (Concord) and Annika Boyd (Toukley) both making a late birdie to make the cut.

Birdie Blitz at Bonville for Garner and Chu

(Wednesday 29th November, 2017)

Jordie Garner (Castle Hill) has taken control of the Bonville Champions Trophy after a long opening day at the Bonville Golf Resort. Garner was the standout in the morning round, with four birdies and an 18th hole eagle helping him to a five under par 67 and a four shot round one lead.

The 18 Year Old from Shelly Beach on the NSW Central Coast picked up another three shots to begin his second round to sit at eight under par and appeared to be cruising. But a final-hole double bogey, where his first chip shot didn't get onto the green, left the door slightly ajar for the chasing pack. And it's a large chasing pack behind Garner, with Clayton Small (Long Reef) sitting at one under par for the tournament after holing his bunker shot for an unlikely birdie on his final hole of the day. Tom Heaton (The Australian) sits in outright third at even par, whilst Jeffrey Guan (The Australian) was the best of the younger brigade, the 13 year old finishing the opening day at +1 and in a share of fourth.

The Girls Division is much closer, with Amy Chu (The Australian) holding a slender lead after day one. The 17 Year Old fired a one under par 71 in the morning and was still at one under par late in the day, before bogies on her final two holes brought her back to the field. Chu sits at +1 for the tournament, with Chloe Thornton (Queanbeyan) and Belinda Ji (Concord) right in the mix only one shot behind.

After playing 26 holes on Wednesday, all players will resume early on Thursday morning to complete their second rounds. The third round will be completed on Thursday afternoon before playing the cut is made ahead of the final round on Friday.

Champions Come Together at Bonville

(Monday 27th November, 2017)

The final event of the 2017 JNJG Tour Season begins on Wednesday in Coffs Harbour, with the 2017 Champions Trophy set to take place at the magnificent Bonville Golf Resort. 52 players have qualified and will take part in the invite-only event, held at the Mid North Coast venue for the 5th consecutive time.

There will be a first-time winner in the Boys Division, with 2016 Champion Jason Hong graduating from the JNJG ranks and moving to the United States, playing golf at the prestigious Purdue University in Indianna. The final tournament of the year also marks the final JNJG tournament ever for five current members, with Reid Brown (Pymble), Jones Comerford (Bonnie Doon), Josh Gadd (Concord) and Castle Hill pair Jordan Garner and Tom Gill recently turning 18 and moving out of the junior ranks. 18 Year old's have a good record in the tournament, and it would come as no shock to see one of the boys sign off from junior golf on a high.

A total of 33 boys will take part in the event, with 17 players set to make the 54 hole cut on Thursday evening and qualify for Friday's final round.

Whilst defending Girls champion Bella Kil is still eligible for the event, she won't be able to make it back to back Bonville titles due to an overseas family holiday! 18 Year-Old Chloe Thornton, who will be following the Jason Hong pathway to US College next year after recently signing to Kennesaw University in Georgia, will also play her farewell JNJG tournament after a long junior career. She'll need to be at her best to win, with a host of other challengers also looking for a first Bonville Champions trophy title.

A total of 33 boys will take part in the event, with 17 players set to make the 54 hole cut on Thursday evening and qualify for Friday's final round. 19 Girls will compete, with 10 players playing their way into the final grouping's on Friday.

Tuesday sees all players travel to Coffs Harbour before joining with the staff and members at Bonville in a Junior-Am competition on the Tuesday afternoon.
