Howlong Leads the Way for Junior Golf

The last clinic of the highly awarded Howlong My Golf program was held on Sunday 20th March.  Around 120 juniors are participating in the program with 150 people were in attendance for the presentation.  The Clinic was followed by a sausage sizzle and medal presentation. The Advanced Group of juniors who successfully completed the Skills Challenge received medals and certificates to progress to the Juniors on Course (JOC) Program.  The presentation recognised a group of juniors who were invited to join the Advanced Group and complete the Skills Challenge for our next 2016.17 Program.

The participants in the clinic were testing their skills aiming to hit giant fluffy Easter bunnies and the prize of course being Easter eggs.  No fluffy bunnies were harmed during this activity, in fact the bunny were auctioned off at the presentation to new homes with all funds going towards the Good Friday appeal.  The juniors raised more than $500 for the Good Friday appeal from the bunny auctions and from the generous contribution of those in attendance at the presentation.

Club General Manager Chris Rebbechi introduced the new Director of Golf John Cannon who was in for his first day in the new job and he was “blown away” by the number of kids involved in the program and the support from the parents and coaches.

Howlong Junior Golf Coordinator Jan Wilson has done an amazing job organising the program and activities for Howlong’s dedicated group of volunteer coaches who have undertaken the AIS coaching program.  It is no surprise that the program is going from strength to strength under Wilson’s guidance.  Jan won the highly regarded Coaches Recognition Award from Golf Australia in 2013 and is responsible for all of the administrative functions of the program as well as the practical component of the clinics and coordination of the coaches at each session. In addition to the Club based program Jan also coordinates the school program and is the junior My Golf Coordinator for the Murray District Golf Association.

The My Golf program will take a break returning in September 2016
