A Good Field at Coraki to Start the 2016 Order of Merit series

The start of the 2016 NRDGA and WGNR Order of Merit series at Coraki Golf Club saw a good field of 56 players compete in the 5 hole (Tyro), 9 Hole (Cadet) and 18 hole (Junior) events.

Players from Ballina, Byron Bay, Casino, Coraki, Coolangatta-Tweed Heads, Kyogle, Lismore, Maclean, Murwillumbah, Yamba, Grafton and Ocean Shores participated in this popular event.

The Junior Boys Division was won by Riley Taylor (Casino) from Kyle Underwood (Ballina) with a score of 3 over par 73.  Half the field in the Boys Junior Division were off single figure handicaps so they were obviously putting some hard work into their practice over the Christmas holidays.  The Junior Boys Division Nett winner was a local boy from Coraki – Aden Martin with a great score of 68.  Joint Runners Up in the Nett competition was Connor Whitelock (Byron Bay) and Callen Stubbs (CTH).  Connor performed very well in the 9 hole Cadet Division in 2015 and it looks like his good form has continued after he acquired his GA handicap.

The Junior Girls Division was won by Eleka Moore (Ballina).  The winner of the Junior Girls Nett competition was Courtney Fuller (Grafton).

Cameron Harlen-Robertson (Lismore) and Charlie Dean (Ocean Shores) had great scores in the 9 hole Cadet Boys Division with Charlie the winner after a countback.  Other good scores were recorded by Cass Barnes (Murwillumbah) and Mali Loomes (Ocean Shores). The Cadet Boys Nett Division was won by Oliver Payne who shot the best score in his brief career to date – nett 17.  The grapevine has it that Oliver put in a lot of work over the Christmas/New Year holidays and it is obviously starting to pay off.  A good field of 6 girls competed in the Cadet Girls Division with Holly Fuller (Grafton) recording the best gross score and Zoe Gaskell (Ballina) taking out the nett prize.

A great field of 15 players lined up for the 5 hole Tyro event with Brielle Wenham (Casino) and Frankie Payne (Ballina) handing in the best scores.

The next event in the NRDGA OOM series will be held at Ocean Shores on Sunday March 6th 2016.
