Subramaniam, Arcus Win Marathon Week of Golf

(7:00pm - Friday 12th January 2024)

Vidur Subramaniam (Ryde Parramatta) secured a wire-to-wire victory at the 2024 Harvey Norman Sydney Week of Golf, dominating the competition over 90 holes and finishing with an impressive 11-shot victory.

The 17-year-old comfortably maintained his seven-shot lead from the final round's start, leaving his competitors struggling to catch up. Subramaniam showcased his skills with five birdies in the first nine holes, ultimately concluding the tournament at 13 under par. In the final round, he posted a remarkable score of 65, finishing the day four under par.

“It’s good to be back after an injury and playing some good golf. I’m feeling pretty good,” he added.

“I was under a bit of pressure because I haven’t been in a position like this for a long time and I think being able to consolidate from a position like that, it feels pretty good.”

Throughout the five-day tournament, Subramaniam consistently performed well, recording scores of 66, 70, 74, 66, and 65.

“90 holes is a bit extreme but we got through it.”

“I’d like to thank my parents. They’re always with me at tournaments and I think that helps me thrive.”

In the runner-up positions, Darcy Mackay of The Australian and Ti Fox of Concord tied for second place, both finishing at two under par. Fox was also the winner of the boys 14-15 division. Toukleys Blake Cranston took out the boy’s 12-13 division with a final score of plus nine.

Securing victory after delivering the lowest round of her JNJG career earlier in the week, 17-year-old Zoe Arcus (Cromer) maintained her lead and clinched the win with a final score of one under par after the five rounds.

Expressing her satisfaction, she commented, "I'm feeling pretty good; it was a long five days, but I got it done."

Despite feeling fatigued at the start of the final day, Arcus resolved to push through and give her best effort to emerge victorious. The tournament's highlight was her two outstanding rounds at four under par. Her scores for the week included 76, 76, 68, 67, and 76.

"This is my biggest win yet, so that's pretty fun."

Securing the second position was Catalina's Sophie Eppulstun, finishing with a score of plus two after an impressive three under par round today, which featured an eagle on the 16th hole. Third place went to Sahara Hillman-Varma from Concord with a score of plus four.

In the girls 12-13 division, Sarah Quan of Killara emerged victorious with a birdie on the second playoff hole, while Jia You of Concord claimed the 14-15 division with her score of plus 27.

All the winners from this week are set to compete at the Bonville Champions Trophy at the end of the year.
