Farrar and Jang Claim Victory at Kew

(2:00pm - Sunday 7th May 2023)

Toby Farrar (The Australian) has won back to back North Coast Junior Masters titles, while current Australian Junior Champion Ann Jang (NSW) cruises to victory by five shots.

Farrar began the final round with close company. Darcy Mackay (Stonecutters Ridge) shared the lead with Farrar and Enzo Moon (North Ryde) who was only a shot back. After the challenging front nine, Mackay moved into the lead, recording the only birdie between the final group on the par 4 8th hole. Farrar hit form at the turn and recorded two birdies of his own. Birdies on the par 5 11th and par 4 14th were enough to push him back into the lead by two shots. Aside from a nervy finish, Farrar continued his fine form on the North Coast to secure back to back Junior Masters titles finishing the tournament +4 (72, 72).

It was business as usual for Ann Jang (NSW), as she cruised from start to finish and secured victory by five shots. Jang's only blimp came at the end of her back nine with a pair of bogey's on the 8th and 9th. However, in the form that Jang is currently in, there was never any doubt that she would be able to get her round back on track in no time. Finishing with another two birdies on the par 4 14th and par 5 16th hole, Jang was the only player to go under par in both rounds. Recording rounds of 69,69 to go 4 under par. It was Jang's first Junior Masters title of the season and a standout performance over the weekend.

Harry Atkinson (Pymble), with one of the rounds of the day moved into second place overall shooting 68 (-2) and claiming the Boys 16 Years and Over divison. Jesse Linden (Newcastle) battled it out all the way until the end, finishing with a one shot victory in the Boys 13 Years and Under Division.

Camilla Kim (The Australian) added another victory to her long list of accolades by winning the Girls 13 Years and Under Division. Rebecca Zhao (The Lakes), paired with Kim and Jang in the final group took a convincing win in the Girls 16 Years and Over Divison.

In the U12 Tour, Chloe Sun (Killara) was victorious in the Girls Division, while Ricky Fang (Oatlands) and Jaydon Hui won the Boys 10 Years & Under and Boys 11 & 12 Years respectively.

Jang Shines again While Mackay and Farrar Share Lead

(6:00pm - Saturday 6th May 2023)

Ann Jang's (NSW) recent form has rolled on as she leads by three going into the final round, Darcy Mackay (Stonecutters Ridge) and Toby Farrar (The Australian) will both take a one shot overnight lead.

Play began with a siren at midday to signal a shotgun start, as the field walked out to a stunning day for Round 1. Recently crowned Australian Junior Champion, Ann Jang (NSW) continued her formidable form with a fantastic first round and the only player to reach red figures on day 1. Jang finished bogey free, 69 (-2), a flawless performance which included birdies on the 18th and 2nd. Jang will be joined by Rebecca Zhao (The Lakes) and Rachel Lee (Avondale) who are only three shots back. Lee finished her round with three birdies in a row and Zhao's final nine featured four birdies.

Defending Champion, Toby Farrar had a solid first round to begin his title defence. It was steady golf for Farrar as he finished with a birdie to take a share of the lead with Darcy Mackay. Mackay shot up the leaderboard with two birdies inside his final three holes. William Martin (Port Macquarie) and Enzo Moon (North Ryde) will join the leaders in the final group, the two boys had an abundance of birdies between them and will want to go low tomorrow if they are to challenge for the title.

Farrar Set to Defend North Coast Title

(3:00pm - Tuesday 2nd May 2023)

Come Saturday, more than 100 of New South Wales and Queensland’s best young golfing talents will cruise to Kew Country Club to take part in the North Coast Junior Masters.

The tournament returns to the player friendly 18-hole championship style golf course after last year’s event was moved to Emerald Downs due to significant rain and flooding across much of the state. This time round the rain isn’t expected to make an appearance, much to the delight of Tournament Volunteer Howard Burrows and his team at Kew Country Club.

The competition will be intense with thirteen players in the field currently on a handicap of scratch or better and all-important spots at the Bonville Champions Trophy up for grabs.

A new Girls Champion will be found as last year’s winner Godiva Kim will not be competing, but 2022 Boys Champion Toby Farrar of The Australian will be back to defend his title and will be bringing the heat. Farrar was part of the NSW Junior State Team that took home the win at the Australian Junior Interstate Series in Tasmania just two weeks ago.

Fellow Junior State teams members Rebecca Zhao of The Lakes and Rachel Lee of Avondale are also in the field and will be fierce competition. Others headlining the girl’s division include Ann Jang of New South Wales, who was recently crowned the 2023 Australian Junior Girls Champion, and Concord’s Amy Squires who was runner-up at the Illawarra Junior Masters.

Ones to watch in the Boys division are Blake Hodges of NSW GC, who will be competing after his win at the Murray River Junior Masters late last month and Vidur Subramaniam of Ryde Parramatta, who has had a very impressive start to the year including going through the 2023 Mens Metropolitan Major Pennant Season undefeated.

The two-day tournament will begin on Saturday with entries officially closing on Wednesday afternoon.
