Thomas and Harris Claim Champions Trophy at Bonville

(2:00pm - Thursday 7th December 2023)

Jedd Thomas (Cromer) and Amelia Harris (Yarra Yarra) have etched their names into JNJG history with dominant victories at the 2023 Bonville Champions Trophy.

Thomas was in control throughout the tournament, leading from wire to wire to claim the biggest win of his Junior Career in his final event as a junior. The recently turned 18 year old shot rounds of 67 - 69 - 72 - 71 to win by nine shots, incredibly finishing the event as the only player in the boys division under par. Thomas also went within a whisker of matching former JNJG star Harrison Crowe's tournament record score of 10 under par.

After starting the day with a seven shot lead, Thomas played steady and consistent golf throughout the final round to keep his challengers at bay. Toby Farrar (The Australian) finished as the closest of those challengers, getting up and down on the last to secure outright second at even par, one shot clear of a group of three players. Chase Oberle (The Brisbane GC) had the round of the day on Thursday to move into a share of third, alongside JNJG Youngsters Harry Gourlay (The Australian) and Ti Fox (Concord).

In the Girls Division, Victorian visitor Amelia Harris claimed her biggest JNJG title to date, defeating JNJG's Australian Open stars Ann Jang (NSW GC) and Ella Scaysbrook (The Australian). Harris, who started the final round in a share of the lead, jumped out of the block with three birdies in the first seven holes to open up a handy lead. Jang fought hard, making birdies of her own on seven and nine to put the pressure on, but a double bogey on the difficult 12th hole gave Harris the winning break.

Harris sealed victory in style, making birdie on the iconic par 3 17th hole to close out a three shot victory. Jang finished second with Scaysbrook in fourth, a gallant effort by the pair after playing 12 rounds of golf in 11 days, dating back to last Monday where the duo Monday qualified for the Australian Open. They were split by Michelle Bang (Concord) who finished third after a final round 72.

Like always, JNJG wants to extend a big thank you to the entire team at Bonville Golf Resort for putting on a tournament that continues to become a highlight on the JNJG Calendar.

Thomas Extends at the Top as Girls Share Lead

(6:00pm - Wednesday 6th December 2023)

Jedd Thomas (Cromer) has one hand on the Bonville Champions Trophy after a fantastic day of golf in sweltering conditions at Bonville Golf Resort. Thomas finished his second round this morning in style making an eagle on the last to sign for a three under par 69 and eight under par total.

In stifling heat, the recently turned 18 year old backed that morning round up with an even par 72 to extend his lead to seven shots, as his closest chellengers melted in the Coffs Harbour sun.

Toby Farrar (The Australian) is the only other boy in red figures at the end of day two, finishing at one under par for the tournament despite dropping four shots late in the round. They'll be joined in the final group by Harry Atkinson (Pymble), who shares third place with Ti Fox (Concord) at one over par.

The leading boys will get underway in the final round at 8:10am.

The Girls Division is quite the opposite, with Amelia Harris (Yarra Yarra) and Ann Jang (NSW GC) set for a final round showdown on Thursday morning. The talented duo sit at three under par through 54 holes, five shots clear of closest challenger, Michelle Bang (Concord).

Harris fired a second round 68 to briefly take the 36 Hole lead, as Jang finished her second round with a second consecutive 70. The third round wasn't quite as easy-going in the difficult conditions, with Harris firing a 75 to Jang's 73, setting the stage for an exciting final round.

The leading girls will get underway on Thursday morning at 8:00am.

(5:00pm - Tuesday 5th December 2023)

Jedd Thomas (Cromer) and Victorian visitor Amelia Harris (Yarra Yarra) hold the lead after the opening day at the 2023 Bonville Champions Trophy.

Thomas was brilliant on Tuesday morning, opening the tournament with a five under par 67 that included birdies on four of the five par 5s on the testing Bonville layout. The recently turned 18-year-old from the Northern Beaches in Sydney extended his lead late on the opening day, picking up an eagle on the par-5 7th hole as all players completed 26 holes on the opening day of competition.

Thomas sits at six under par, leading by three shots from Harry Atkinson (Pymble) and Harry Whitelock (Royal Canberra), who finished the day at three under par through their first 26 holes. A further three players are in red figures after the opening day, with the top 13 players (+ ties) making the 54-Hole cut and qualifying for the final round on Thursday morning.

The Girls division has turned into a two-player shoot-out, with Harris holding a one-stroke lead over recent Australian Open competitor Ann Jang (NSW GC). Harris and Jang shot matching rounds of two under par 70 on Tuesday morning, with Harris backing that up with another two under par effort through the opening eight holes in round two, taking a one shot lead.

They lead by four shots from the chasing pack, headlined by Michelle Bang (Concord) who was the big mover late in the day, moving into a share of third at one over par with three second round birdies.

Players will complete their second rounds on Wednesday morning before starting round three and striving to make the 54-Hole cut.
