Tournament Preview

(4:00pm - Monday 19th September 2022)

After a two-year Covid enforced break, more than 400 juniors from around the world will arrive in the Hunter Valley this week to take part in the 2022 Jack Newton International Junior Classic.

For the first time ever, players of all ages, levels and abilities will be able to take part in the tournament with Singleton Golf Club set to host the Jack Newton 9-Hole Junior Classic, a new tournament added to the International to cater for our youngest juniors without an official 18-Hole handicap.

The event at Singleton joins the Jack Newton International Junior Classic (Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club) and Jack Newton International Sub-Junior Classic (Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley) to make the tournament the biggest junior tournament in Australia and one of the biggest anywhere in the world.

Jack Newton International Junior Classic

The Jack Newton International Junior Classic will once again take place at Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club, with almost 200 players from six different Countries and every State and Territory in Australia represented at the event this year. Whilst Covid and certain travel restrictions have limited the number of International Teams taking part, regulars to the International from the USA (Oahu Junior Golf Association in Hawaii), New Zealand, New Caledonia and Singapore have returned to the tournament this year, putting Covid in the rear-view mirror.

The World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, which is also the highest rated junior tournament in the country behind the Australia Junior Championship, sees players aged 15 - 17 teeing it up at Cypress Lakes, looking to join an elite list of players who have been crowned Jack Newton International Champions.

Jack Newton International Sub-Junior Classic

The Jack Newton International Sub-Junior Classic returns to Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, host of the event in 2019 for the first and only time before Covid arrived on our door-step in 2020.

The tournament will see almost 150 of the best junior golfers aged 14 Years and Under take part, with a sprinkling of interstate and international talent mixed in with some of New South Wales finest.

The Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley lay-out, which also plays host to The Jack Newton Celebrity Classic in December each year, is the perfect venue for those aged 14 and Under with a fantastic mix of short and long holes testing out golfers of all ages.

Jack Newton International 9-Hole Junior Classic

The newest part of the Jack Newton International, the 9-Hole Junior Classic will get underway for the first time, with an incredble turn out of our youngest stars registering to play in the event at Singleton Golf Club. The tournament, which will take place over three days, sees more than 80 kids travelling from right across the state to take part.

The opening day sees the juniors involved with group lessons from a number of PGA Professionals, as well as a welcome BBQ alongside clinics and skill challenges, followed by two days of nine-hole competition on the tight and tricky Singleton lay-out.

The majority of juniors taking part are involved in the JNJG Juniors on the Move program, a grass-roots program designed to introduce kids to the competitive side of golf in a fun, friendly and relaxed environment.
