Local Stars Shine at Kew
(5.00pm - Sunday 6th December 2020)
As the temperature rose, the contest for the North Coast Junior Masters became a battle of attrition, and it was two Lower North Coast locals who held their nerve best to claim the title on Sunday afternoon at Kew Country Club.
Kew junior and fan-favourite Fletcher Murray (Bonnie Doon) fired a bogey free 69 to finish at two under par for the tournament to win the boys division by one stroke. Murray held off Jake Riley (Toronto), who led the tournament until disaster struck on the uphill 17th. Nathan White (Yowani) continued to show his vast improvement in 2020 with a superb tournament, sharing third with Will Moody (Avondale) and Max Duffy-Smith (Belmont) at two over par.
The Girls Division looked all set for a three-way playoff, with Port Macquarie local Ella Scaysbrook (Newcastle), Claire Shin (Twin Creeks) and Nara Shin (Lynwood) locked together coming down the 18th. Scaysbrook had other ideas, picking up a birdie on the last to fire an even par 71 and win the Girls Division by one shot. The Shin's (no relation) finished one shot back at four over par, with Ella Murray (Dubbo) rounding out the top four.
The disappointment of missing the North Coast Junior Masters title for Claire Shin was put aside somewhat, as the youngster claimed the 2020 Girls Champions Trophy by two shots over Yerin Kim (Strathfield). The Boys Division went into overtime, with extra holes needed to separate The Australian members, Harrison Glenday and Arki Valdy. In the end it was Glenday, playing in his final ever Junior Tournament who claimed the Boys Champions Trophy, winning on the 2nd play off hole over the much improved Valdy.

North Coast Junior Masters to Finally Take Place
(8:00am - Thursday 3rd December 2020)
The original date wasn't possible due to Covid-19 restrictions, but after a 6 month delay, the 2020 North Coast Junior Masters will finally take place at Kew Country Club this weekend. More than 100 golfers from right across the state will travel to the Lower North Coast venue to participate in the event, which will be the final Junior Masters event on a disasterous 2020 calendar.
In a year where tournament cancellations and postponements have become a regular thing, some sort of normality has begun to return to the JNJG calendar with the second Masters event in a three week window leading into the NSW Junior Championships in just 10 days time.
The North Coast Junior Masters will also double as the Champions Trophy in 2020, with just 24 golfers qualifying for the end of season event in a year where just four tournaments were actually played.
Kew Country Club members Fletcher Murray, Quedesha Golledge and Vanna Limeburner will have the home crowd support as they look to become the first local winners of the event, being held in 2020 for the sixth straight time.
Play begins on Saturday morning at 9:30am, with a 7:30am start on Sunday morning.
