Another Successful Day at Uralla

The annual junior event was held yesterday with 21 players participating in a series of events – 4 holes, 9 holes and 18 holes. Players and parents travelled from Tamworth, Moree, Gunnedah, Inverell and Armidale to take on our own local kids.

We were pleased to have the company of Gerard Wilkinson from the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation for the day and it was our pleasure to showcase some of our own local players and trust Gerard enjoyed himself on the day.

A number of our members came out to support the day and I would like to thank each and every one of them for taking the time to come out……..The kids got a great kick of it.  Geoff Wood, our club President, presented trophies to the winners of the 18 Hole event, so a big thank you to Geoff.

Sponsors for the day were Jo Hull from Properties Uralla, Warren and Kerry Sellings from New England Building Consultants, Phoenix Foundry, Bruce McMullen and the major sponsor was Regional Australia Bank.

The kids ran a BBQ on the day and the sausages etc were donated by Peter Strelitz from Milly Hill Meats. A big thank you to Peter and his team.

A massive thank you to our greenkeeper, Simon Sanderson, for not only having the course in such great condition, but also for coming out early Sunday morning to put some finishing touches on the course. Everyone remarked on the great conditions, so thanks again Simon.

Winners of the events were:

4 Holes – Cameron Magann (Uralla)

Boys 9 Holes – Cooper Smith (Uralla)

Girls 9 Holes – Tabitha Hignett (Uralla)

Boys 18 Holes – Toby Cooper (Uralla)

Girls 18 Holes – Bree Purse (Moree)

The events on the day were conducted in an exemplary sporting manner and the kids and parents are all to be commended on what turned out to be an excellent day all round.

There were some outstanding scores including Toby Cooper with a 78 off the stick, Bree Purse with an 81 and Cooper Smith in the 9 hole event with a score of 43 (bear in mind Cooper is 10 years old). I think we better look out for him in the years to come.

To all the parents and volunteers that came along to help out, a massive thank you for your efforts and we look forward to staging the event again next year.
