2016 NRDGA Junior Championships

The 2016 NRDGA Championships were conducted in conjunction with the Jeb Hunter Memorial Classic at Murwillumbah Golf Club on March 20th 2016.  A strong field of 29 junior boys, over half with single figure handicaps, made sure this would be a hotly contested event.

A young Ballina Junior, Jay Mackenzie, was recently selected in the NSW Junior Team to participate in the Australian Junior Championships in Tasmania in April.  Jay returned to his “home patch” in the Northern Rivers to shoot a 1 over par 73 to win the NRDGA Junior Championships.  Only 1 shot behind Jay were 3 other players – Alex Hunt (Murwillumbah), Kyle Underwood (Ballina) and Riley Taylor (Casino).  Riley’s was the “almost” story of the day when he was 2 under par after 16 holes and then took a quadruple bogey on the 17th for fall just out of the winners circle.

The Junior Boys Nett Division was won by Isaac Outridge (Coolangatta-Tweed Heads) with a score of 71 just holding off Kayne Endean (Maclean) on a count-back.
