Yamba Junior Open

On a fine and sunny day in the Clarence, the Yamba Junior Open Day attracted a field of over 40 participants from Ballina, Casino, Coraki, Coolangatta-Tweed Heads, Murwillumbah, Grafton, Kyogle, Lismore, and the host club.

The Junior Boys event was an exciting contest with over half the field having single figure handicaps.  An amazing round of 3 under par 69 by Alex Hunt (Murwillumbah) was good enough to take out the gross event.  Alex has had a very consistent year and his lead in the Order of Merit series looks big enough for him to take out the major prize.  Other good scores were recorded by Jay Mackenzie (Ballina) and Mackenzie Wright (Yamba).  The Junior Boys nett event saw local knowledge come to the fore with Billy Bolte (Yamba) having a fantastic round of 66 – six shots better than his handicap.  Another local to fare well in the nett event was Reilly Wunderlich with a nett 71.

The Junior Girls event attracted only a small field of three with the winner of the gross event being Eleka Moore (Ballina). Courtney Fuller (Grafton) took out the Junior Girls nett prize.

The Cadet Boys competition is always an exciting event with the next wave of golfers crafting around 9 holes on a tough golf course.  Billy Muldoon (CTH) showed great skill to have only 46 shots off the Red Tees – a great score.  Billy’s score was much too good for the Kyogle duo of Brayden Howlett and Jayme Walters.  Brayden also took out the nett prize with a great score of 26.  The Cadet Girls section was a tight affair with Elly Peterson (CTH) holding off Holly Fuller (Grafton) and Jenna Carter (Yamba).

The Yamba Junior Day also hosted a ten young Tyros playing 5 holes and all players and parents/grandparents had a great day.

The next event on the NRDGA Order of Merit schedule is the final event of the year at Byron Bay on Sunday November 8th.
