The Jack – Jack Newton Celebrity Classic was held again in 2017 at the beautiful Hunter Valley Golf Course. Touring professionals, celebrities, sponsors and amateurs lined up for this sought after end of year event. All let down their hair and played and partied while contributing to junior golf in NSW and to diabetes research. With accommodation on site at the magnificent Crowne Plaza Resort players were in party mode for all three days.

The fun started with a BBQ dinner on Monday evening and a spectacular aerobatics flyby from Matt Hall and fireworks display from the Fortunato Foti family (the Sydney Harbour fireworks specialists). The two round tournament commenced bright and early on Tuesday with each team consisting of a professional, amateur, celebrity and sponsor. Many dress up in fun and odd outfits which adds to atmosphere. Notables included Bob Hawke (politics), Wally and Lincoln Lewis (Rugby league and acting), Allen Beard (sponsor AH Beard), Rob Palmer (Better Homes and Gardens), Adam Spencer (radio) and Andrew Dolt (PGA) and Rebecca Artis (LPGA).

First round leader Tom McLaine fired the best round of the event with a fine 4 under par 67. The best on day two was lefty Brad McIntosh with a 70. The overall winner however was Sung Park with a score of 140 and a fitting winner as his first event he played in after moving from South Korea as a 15 year old was a Jack Newton Junior Golf Tournament. The talking point was young JNJG representative Josh Gadd from the Penrith Golf Club. In the second round he scored an amazing 9 birdies with 5 in a row. Not bad for an 18 year old who has just finished school. The other three JNJG representatives were Amy Chu, Harry Doig and Kelsey Bennett.

Many and varied sponsors support The Jack including long time sponsor AH Beard as well as Bunnings, Club Car and Srixon to name a few.

2018 will see the 40th instalment of the longest running Pro-Am in Australia - The Jack presented by golf legend Jack Newton.
