2014 Uralla Junior Open - August 24th, 2014

In 2013, this event was interrupted by some bad weather and it looked as though we might get wet again in Uralla.  However, the dark clouds stayed away and we were able to complete a wonderful day’s golf on a tough track, the greens are small and very quick.  The best outcome from the day was the appearance of SIX girls in the 9 hole Cadet event.  As everyone associated with golf is aware, the number of lady/girl golfers is in significant decline and this was a delightful reminder that all may not be lost.  There were also a significant number of young ladies in the 4 hole Tyro event so the day was very successful from that perspective.

The Cadet Girls event was again a closely fought duel between Tori Brazier (Guyra) and Annabelle Abrahamson (Moree) with Annabelle finally winning the prize with a great score of 56.  Another great score of 61 shots was registered by a local player, Courtney Dade (Uralla).  The Cadet Boys event was a tight affair with Lachlan Fleming (Tamworth) holding off Rhys Devney (Moree) by 1 shot with Brendan Scott (Tamworth) a further 2 shots back.  The Cadet Boys OOM event looks like it could go right down to the wire with Devney, Fleming and Taylor Brennan (Guyra) all in with a chance of taking out the major prizes.

The Junior Girls event was again contested by a small field with Bronte Walsh (Armidale) holding off Breanna Purse (Moree) to win the gross prize.  The Junior Boys event was a tight affair with Darcy Carroll (Moree) shooting 75 to hold off Jock McPherson (Tamworth)  by 1 shot.  Jock’s score meant that he played 3 shots better than his handicap so he was successful in winning the nett prize.  Other good nett scores were recorded by Matt Turner (Armidale) and Jake Ellis (Guyra).

The next event in the Northern Inland Order of Merit Series will be held at Tenterfield on Sunday October 19th.  We look forward to seeing you there.
