Lismore Junior Open Golf Day - Sunday August 23rd, 2015.

Great weather greeted a total of 77 competitors from Iluka, Grafton, Ocean Shores, Ballina, Coraki, Byron Bay, Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby, Yamba, Kyogle, Coolangatta-Tweed Heads, Casino and the host club at Lismore. It is always a fun day at Lismore with the major factor in the enjoyment of the day being the participation of 21 5-Hole Tyros and 25 9-Hole Tyros.  The enjoyment of the families all walking the course together was a fabulous sight.

Following on from his most recent win (2 under par) at the Casino Junior Open Day, Riley Taylor (Casino) was again on fire at Lismore.  Playing the front 9 in even par, Riley stormed home with two birdies and an eagle to finish with a 3 under par round of 67.  Lucas Higgins (Murwillumbah) was next best with a 70 followed by Jay Mackenzie (Ballina) with a 73.  The junior boys nett division was again won by Reilly Wunderlich (Yamba) with a fantastic score of 65.  Reilly’s handicap has reduced from 22 to 15 since the start of the year and it looks like it will fall further after this round.  Nick Magarry (Lismore) had a good round with a nett 68 closely followed by Isaac Outridge (CTH) with a nett 69.

The junior girls division attracted a good field of six competitors.  Maddy Trew (Murwillumbah) was again too good for the field and took out the gross event with a score of 78.  Close behind were Courtney Fuller (Grafton) and Eleka Moore (Ballina).  Bianca Higgins (Murwillumbah) took out the nett prize with a great score of 71.

The consistent Connor Whitelock (Byron Bay) had another good round in the Cadet Boys division and won the gross prize (on a count back) with a score of 47.  It looks like Connor has now cleared away from the rest of the field in the Order of Merit (gross) competition.  Connor’s score was equalled by Jayme Walters (Kyogle) with Ethan Walker (Lismore) only a couple of shots further back.  The Cadet Boys nett division was won by Kane Whitelock (Byron bay) making the day a family affair.  Kane’s score of nett 30 indicates his scores are becoming more consistent.  Runner up in the nett division was an infrequent visitor to the NRDGA circuit, Brandon Yee from Lismore.

The Cadet Girls division attracted 5 girls and the winner of the very tight Gross competition was Hollie Fuller (Grafton) on a count back from Jenna Carter (Yamba).  A new player to our competition, Elly Peterson (CTH) was only 1 shot further back.  Other good scores were completed by Lily Ulrick (Ocean Shores) and Maddison McKee (Grafton).

Congratulations to the Lismore Golf Club and PGA Professional Peter Jaeger and his helpers for putting on a fantastic day for junior golf.
