2016 PGA IGI JNJG Scholarship

The PGA International Golf Institute (PGA IGI) and Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) are pleased to announce Central Coast junior Jack Steed as the 2016 recipient of JNJG Scholarship at the PGA IGI. The scholarship integrates academic studies, delivered through a Diploma of Golf Management at PGA IGI Sydney Campus, and industry specific on-the-job training.

Jack is a 4 handicapper from Everglades Golf Club, on the Central Coast and commenced his scholarship at the beginning of February.  As part of the Diploma requirements Jack attends lectures three days a week at the PGA IGI Campus in Manly.  He also fulfills his on-the-job training three mornings a week at the JNJG office.  This training includes office administration, tournament planning and operations, player management and school golf development.

Jack has proven his academic capabilities after averaging scores of 90 in his HSC.  In his final year he was School Captain at Brisbane Water Secondary College. He is a very busy young man playing both golf and touch rugby, while completing his Diploma as well as his job as Manager at Eagle Boys Pizza Umina. Despite his demanding schedule he is thoroughly looking forward to the challenge.

“By undertaking the PGA IGI Internship, I wish to gain experience that will enhance and further my ability to organise sporting tournaments. This experience will then provide me with the ability to further my career in the sporting industry, whilst making lifelong friends,’ Jack said.

Chief Executive Officer of JNJG, Peter Van Wegen said, “As part of our commitment to provide opportunities for young people through the sport of golf, JNJG is excited about the partnership with the PGA IGI.”

“We are pleased to have Jack on board and offer him the opportunity to develop his skills in the various capacities of the golfing industry.  It is important that our juniors are aware of the numerous career pathways open to them through the sport of golf and we are pleased to assist wherever possible to help them pursue these pathways,” said Peter.

The PGA IGI has been operating on the Gold Coast for over 20 years and in 2014 opened its second campus in Sydney. Delivering tailored programs specifically to the golf industry the PGA IGI offers Australia’s only Diploma of Golf Management. The PGA IGI's University partner in NSW, International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), provides a pathway to higher education studies through articulation into bachelor degree courses. Students are able to combine golf skills and practice, side by side with their university studies. Exclusive entry into one of the oldest sporting associations in the world, the PGA of Australia, also exist for PGA IGI graduates.

Graduates of the PGA IGI can be found working in various positions across golf club management, administration, tournaments and teaching all over the world. The PGA, Taylor Made, Golf Queensland, Royal Melbourne Golf Club and many other golf clubs around the world have all employed PGA IGI graduates.
