For three years now St. Matthews Primary School has been visiting Belconnen Magpies Golf Club as part of their school golf program.  Belconnen Magpies and its band of welcoming volunteers are committed to making it easy for young people to enjoy the game of golf.  Consequently, they have a large number of junior golfers playing on weekends, and involved in the professional clinics run by Club Professional, Jonathan Hickman.

It was so great to see some familiar faces in the 21 strong group of students this year.  I asked some of the students what it was about golf that they enjoyed and they replied, “Its just so much fun!” and “I enjoy wondering around outside with the ball.”

Not only have St. Matthews’ students been experiencing golf each year, but the teachers have as well.  This year, Mrs. Marg Watt was able to enjoy the experience that Belconnen Magpies offers.  Thank you Marg and look forward to seeing you at our teacher training day.

We were fortunate to have Jonathan available to show the students the finer points of chipping and putting during the event.  Belconnen Magpies is an ideal venue for schools to visit, with their set of 6 practice holes separate to the main golf course.  This facility provides a large amount of space for budding golfers to practice their skills, with holes to play, a putting/chipping green and bunkers to use for practice.

St. Matthews greatly appreciates the generosity and hospitality that Belconnen Magpies provides each year.  JNJG would like to acknowledge and thank to all the volunteers, and Jonathan for making this a great annual event.
