ACT Students Perform Well at National Championships

As small as we are, the ACT provided a strong performance in the Australian Schools Golf Championships held in Toowoomba this year.  This opportunity was invaluable for our young golfers as it provided them with competition against the country’s best up and coming golfers.  Stroke and match play were incorporated in the event and the teams and individuals made significant impact with their golfing ability.

Josh Armstrong was runner up in the National School Boys Stroke Championship and was named Captain of the Australian Merit Team.  Josh also led the way in the match play winning three matches at number one position.  Josh Hunter and Kris Cole also performed strongly winning three matches each.

Chloe Thornton placed third in the National School Girls Stroke Championship, and Madeleine Hunter closely followed in fifth position.  Amber Thornton was a standout player in the girl’s team match play losing only one of five matches at number three position.

Team members included:

Boys:

Joshua Armstrong, Sam Patricks, Joshua Hunter, Jakub Gancarz, James Correll, Kristopher Cole, Boys Manager: Chris Jones

Girls:

Amber Thornton, Eleanor Bance, Madeleine Hunter, Mandy Ho, Chloe Thornton, Jessica McManus, Team Manager: Kylie Smith

Congratulations to the team and managers for their professional approach to the tournament.  The team managers would like to acknowledge the support they received from the local golfing and business community.
