Royal Canberra Golf Club Victorious in Junior Pennant

The ACT Monaro District Junior Pennant was finalised on Sunday 30 March with Royal Canberra defeating Gungahlin Lakes 4.5-2.5 at Capital Golf Club.  The Royal Canberra team was undefeated all season.

Luke Corcoran, Nathan Bull, Thomson Stuckey and Bailey Schifleet, won their matches, with Luka Brucic squaring and Harry Bolton and Max Papandrea loosing their matches on the back nine.  It was a close competition with a number of the boys winning their games on the 18th just as the rain began to fall.  The team received strong support from the Encourage Shield team who took up caddying duties for their club mates.

As has been the case all season the team camaraderie shined through on the day.  The parents remained loyal to the last hole, as they watched in anticipation under their umbrellas.

Congratulations should also be extended to the coaching and managing staff.  Charles Kares, Teaching Professional at Royal Canberra, assisted by Donna Storen, implemented a new program for Junior Pennant and Encourage Shield this year.  Dick Rollason managed the Junior Pennant team, and Stephen Davey managed theEncourage Shield team.

Charles’ program incorporated a structured pennant training program.  Charles acknowledged the strong commitment from all players and parents in attending and engaging in the training program.

In addition to golf tuition and practice, Charles’ program focused on sportsmanship, growth as golfers and individuals, dealing with nerves, fear and defeat, and learning patience and persistence.

Charles was extremely proud of all the players and the efforts they contributed.  He saw the season as a great stepping stone into the future for them, providing a resource for building their game.  He encouraged all players to progress their golf from here and think about what they want to achieve and work towards.

Charles reported that one aspect he wanted from the squad was for everyone to be friends and to support one another.  He was happy to say that the players had proven to him and everyone, that they can work together, have fun, and support each no matter the situation.
