Iluka Junior Classic - Sunday 13th March

The Iluka Junior Classic has recently been one of the most popular events on the NRDGA Order of Merit Circuit.  In 2016 we had visitors from Ballina, Byron Bay, Casino, Coraki, Murwillumbah, Maclean, Ocean Shores, Grafton, Yamba, Kyogle, Coolangatta-Tweed Heads and Lismore as well as the host club.

This year’s event produced an exciting finish with Riley Taylor (Casino) and Mackenzie Wright (Yamba) leading the field home with scores of 73.  A sudden-death playoff ensued resulting in Riley winning on the first extra hole.  Other good scores were recorded by Kyle Underwood (Ballina), Connor Whitelock (Byron bay) and Jackson Magarry (Lismore).  Riley Taylor has won the first three events in the NROOM series and is showing good early season form.  The Junior Boys Nett Division was won by Callen Stubbs (Coolangatta-Tweed Heads) with a fantastic score of 66.  Jayme Walters (Kyogle) and Nicholas Sneesby (Murwillumbah) also bettered their handicap to finish with the minor prises.

Maddie Trew (Murwillumbah) recorded a great score of 74 to win the Iluka Junior Girls Gross Division trophy for the 3rd straight year.  Jenna Carter (Yamba) playing only her second round of 18 hole golf was successful in winning the Junior Girls Nett prize followed by Courtney Fuller (Grafton).

The Cadet Boys Division gross event was won by Charlie Dean (Ocean Shores) with a great score of 45 shots.  Charlie held off Ethan Walker (Coraki) by 1 shot with Mali Loomes (Ocean Shores) also playing well. The Cadet Boys net division was won by Zane Lowe (Yamba) with a score of nett 35 closely followed by Oliver Payne (Ballina) a further shot behind.

The cadet Girls Division was graced by four girls and the winner of the gross event was Holly Fuller (Grafton).  The cadet girls nett Division was won by Maddison McKee (Grafton).

A sensational turnout of 25 golfers also participated in the Iluka Junior Classic 5 hole Tyro event.  In this year’s event, many of the starters in the Tyro event were Iluka locals – a sure sign that the trend is in the right direction and the hard work is paying off.

Our sincere thanks to the Iluka Junior Co-ordinator, Mark Adey (PGA), and his family and other helpers for a great day out.
