Glen Innes Junior Open Day

(Incorporating final Northern Inland Order of Merit Presentation)

Despite a small number of entries, the Glen Innes Golf Club provided a wonderful setting for the final event in the 2014 Northern Inland Order of Merit Series.  We even brought the much needed rain that the District was waiting for.

Tom Gill (Tamworth) had the best round of the day in the Junior Boys section, shooting a great score of 74.  Tom has recently been accepted into the NIAS Junior Development Program and we expect his golf game to improve significantly over the next 12 months.  Darcy Carroll (Moree) shot a 75 with James Shaw (Tenterfield) a further shot behind.

Breanna Purse (Moree) took out the Junior Girls section to maintain her lead in the NIOOM series.

The Cadet Boys section produced an exciting finish.  Rhys Devney (Moree), Taylor Brennan (Guyra) and Lachlan Fleming (Tamworth) all had a chance of taking out the top prize in the end-of-year NIOOM standings.  On the day, both Rhys and Lachlan shot great scores of 51 with Rhys prevailing on a count-back.  This resulted in Lachlan overtaking Taylor for second prize in the OOM and Taylor finishing a further point behind.  Well done to all three boys.

The Cadet Girls section was again a tight affair with Annabelle Abrahamson (Moree) holding off Tori Brazier (Guyra) to win the event of the day.  However, this was not enough to overhaul Tori’s lead in the OOM.  Congratulations to both girls for great performances during the year.

Finally, our sincere thanks to the Glen Innes Golf Club for their kind hospitality and enjoyable atmosphere created on the day.  We will all work hard to ensure Junior Golf continues to be an option for the sporting children of Glen Innes.  We hope you don’t have to wait until our visit next year for another downpour!!!
