Queensland Visitor wins at Moree

It was a small but enthusiastic field at Moree for the first event of the 2017 Northern Inland Order of Merit Series.  It has been very dry in this part of the world but the course still presented in excellent condition for the juniors from the host club, Armidale, Coonabarabran, Inverell, Warialda, Goondiwindi, Stanthorpe, Uralla and Narrabri.

This event is always well sponsored by the local business community and Moree PGA professional Matt McGuire always has an enthusiastic group from his regular clinic participating in the Junior Open Day.  The best score of the day, and the winner of the Junior Boys Gross, was Lachlan Manton (Goondiwindi) who had 77 shots.  Lachlan is a regular visitor to this event and his local course knowledge was advantageous.  Runner up in the Junior Boys Gross was Toby Cooper (Armidale) with an 82.  The Junior Boys Nett Division was won by Matt Felton (Inverell) with a great score of 67.

The Junior Girls competition was a reasonably close affair with two local Moree girls playing well.  Breanna Purse was the winner of the gross event from Annabelle Abrahamsen.  The winner of the Junior Girls Nett Division was Matilda Chapman (Coonabarabran) with a good score of nett 72.

Luke Devney (Moree) was too good for his competitors in the Cadet Boys event shooting a great score of 57 for 9 holes.  Aydan McGuire (Moree) and Matt Reece (Inverell) were close behind.

The next event on the Northern Inland Order of Merit series is at Armidale on Sunday March 26th.
