2018 Encourage Shield Final
It was very windy at Muirfield Golf Club on Sunday 2nd December as defending champions Moore Park GC took on Manly GC in the final of the 2018 Metropolitan Encourage Shield.
The tight, tree lined fairways were difficult to find as most were across the wind. This suited the shorter hitters as they kept under the wind for most of the afternoon.
Moore Park dominated the No. 5 match but Manly were well in front in the No. 6 match, so it was even there as they made the turn. The following matches had Moore park just ahead but too close to get confident.
As the afternoon wore on, the wind eased a little and the long hitters from Manly began to fight back. With 4-5 holes left it was 2-2 but Moore Park held strong leads in the No. 1 & 2 positions. That position didn’t change and Moore Park wrapped up on the 16th hole, 4 matches to 2, to win the Encourage Shield for the second year in a row.
