AASC Students Enjoy Golf

Active After-school Communities provided Marks Point Public School with an amazing seven-week golf program recently with 30 students enjoying the experience and challenge of golf.

During the course the students participated in chipping, pitching, putting, long game and course design at the school.  The program was provided by the AASC program and was fully funded to provide a trained coach on site each week.

The school also purchased two MyGolf Kits, which are now part of the schools sports equipment.

The program provides students with the opportunity to experience various sports and having golf as an option allowed most students to experience the sport for the first time.

In the seventh week of the program the students attended Belmont Golf Club and played two holes of modified golf on the course. Mark Ingrey (Jack Newton Junior Golf Territory Manager) organized the session with the club and provided direction during the one hour session.

The students were placed into groups of five and played a modified Ambrose game; which saw the students take turns in hitting shots until a member of the group holed out. To close the session each student was provided with the option of taking home information about the ongoing junior clinic program at the club.

“It was a great session with all students enjoying the experience, of the 30 students who attended 28 took home junior clinic information, lets hope we see some of them sign up for our upcoming clinics,” said Graeme Stockley, Belmont PGA Professional
