Seventeen-year-old Ricky Kato has won the 2012 Country Club Tasmania Open Golf Championship held at the Country Club Tasmania from February 23-26.

The New South Welshman won the National Trial event with rounds 67, 65, 67 and 76, a nine-under-par total of 275.

Kato claimed the event by two strokes from fellow New South Welshman Brett Drewitt on 277 (-7).

Victoria’s Geoff Drakeford placed third on 278 (-6).

Kingston Beach Golf Club’s Nathan Gatehouse was the leading Tasmanian on 281 (-3).

New South Wales, represented by Daniel Bringolf and Brett Drewitt, collected the two-man-team trophy, the Don Cameron Shield.
