Juniors on the Move Illawarra
Juniors on the Move Illawarra, began in 2016 with kids coming from Wollongong Golf Club and a few from the Sydney JOM, who found that Illawarra courses were more convenient. In total 17 players registered for 2016 season.
In 2017 We now have 28 kids registered for the Illawarra version of JOM. Parents have come to understand the benefits of this level of play. Scaled down junior tournaments give kids a chance to play with and against each other. They have fun with modified rules and shortened golf courses. They start to develop a drive to improve once they receive a win or runner up medal. They also see progress in their development with handicap lowering, or advancement from PUPS to TOUR level JOM.
Golf Clubs in the Illawarra have become more proactive in recent years towards Junior development classes and see the benefit of JOM as part of the pathway for Junior golf as they head towards elite or Club competition golf.
It also creates a great medium for communication between clubs, Club Professionals and Golf Illawarra.
Junior golf is really on the rise in the Illawarra as we see kids participate in the JOM from Nowra, Campbelltown, Wilton, Moss Vale, Gerringong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Wollongong. With great support from Golf Illawarra, local golf clubs and JNJG we will see continued growth in the JOM program over coming years.
