Guyra Junior Open Day

- Sunday May 8th, 2016

Andrew Brennan (Walcha) continued to show why he is the highest ranked golfer in the Northern Inland Region by shooting a great 1 under par round (72) to win the Guyra Junior Open Day.  In Andrew’s last year as a Junior, he has progressed to playing in a number of JNJG Masters events as well as a regular participant in the Northern Inland Order of Merit series.  Next best behind Andrew were Josh Wilson (Narrabri) and Toby Cooper (Armidale).

The Boys nett competition was won by one of the locals, Taylor Brennan (Guyra) with a fantastic score of 63 and 10 better than his handicap.  I understand that this round was the best performance by Taylor in his brief career as a junior golfer.  Another good round by Ethan Weir (Longyard) saw him take the runner up prize.

A relative newcomer to the NIOOM scene won the Cadet Boys competition, Riley Bettington (Moree).  Riley has reduced his gross score in each of the three events he has contested this year so his improvement is noticeable.  Riley’s score was followed home by Luke Devney (Moree) and Noah Weir (Longyard).

A disappointing outcome from the Guyra Junior Open Day was the total absence of young girls in either the Junior or Cadet fields.

We now have a considerable break in the middle of the year before the next scheduled NIOOM event at Tamworth on Sunday 31st July.  However, should a date become available for the yet-to-be re-scheduled Bundarra Junior Open Day, we will advise once known.  For those golfers who are still able to play in the colder months, keep up the practice and we look forward to renewing our NIOOM competition at Tamworth.
