The Junior Vardon (JV) Average for boys and Junior Jean Derrin (JD) Average for girls is made up of all Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) tournaments, Club Junior Open events with JV / JD scoring average status and a number of GOLF NSW Vardon and GOLF NSW Jean Derrin events.

The scoring average and overall winner is determined on a calender year basis.

Player Eligibility

(Example – Peter turns 18 on April 23rd. If he has passed all eligibility criteria and played the minimum number of rounds by this date, he will be eligible to win the Junior Vardon. Any round played after April 23rd will not be taken into consideration).

To be eligible to win the Junior Vardon or Junior Jean Derrin Trophy, a player must participate in a minimum of fifteen (15) junior ranking rounds in a calendar year.

Calculation of Scoring Average

Junior Vardon Average

All Scores are calculated to an average par of 70.
Scores returned on a course with an Australian Mens Course Rating of less than 70 will be increased by the number of strokes by which the rating is below 70.
Scores returned on a course with an Australian Mens Course Rating of more than 70 will be decreased by the number of strokes by which the rating is above 70.

(Example - Dale plays the Penrith Open and shoots a scratch score of 77. The Australian Mens Course Rating (AMCR) is 74. As the AMCR is above 70 by 4 shots, Dale's score is decreased by 4 shots. Dale's adjusted score is 73).

Junior Jean Derrin Average

All Scores are calculated to an average par of 72.
Scores returned on a course with an Australian Womens Course Rating of less than 72 will be increased by the number of strokes by which the rating is below 72.
Scores returned on a course with an Australian Womens Course Rating of more than 72 will be decreased by the number of strokes by which the rating is above 72.

(Example - Sarah plays the Penrith Open and shoots a scratch score of 79. The Australian Womens Course Rating (AWCR) is 75. As the AWCR is above 70 by 3 shots, Sarah's score is decreased by 3 shots. Sarah's adjusted score is 76).

No Score Returned

In the event of a scorecard not returned by a player, the following will apply:

  • A player who starts a round and does not return their scorecard will be recorded as scoring 20 shots over their handicap.
  • A player who is disqualified for an incorrect score card or rule infringement will be recorded as scoring 20 shots over their handicap.
  • A player who cannot complete a round due to a valid reason (eg - illness or injury), will have no score recorded.
