Stella Payne and Greg Brien Win 2020 Covid Cup

(2:00pm - Monday 12th October 2020)


After 16 days of competition which saw more than 280 juniors playing in club competitions around the country, Stella Payne (Ballina) and Greg Brien (Gosford) have finished on top to win the 2020 Covid Cup.

10 year old Payne, the youngest girl in the entire competition spent her school holidays on the golf course, playing eight times in competition, even more than her older siblings Oliver and Franceska!! The Ballina junior beat her handicap five times, dropping her handicap by three shots in the process.

Payne finished on 115 points, winning by one point from JNJG newcomer Sayaka Iwatani (Twin Creeks). One point further back in third place was Sophie Epplestun (Catalina), with Ellie McCormack (Crookwell) and Frankie Payne (Ballina) rounding out the top five.

Savannah Webb (Stonecutters Ridge) and Kortni Houston (Coolangatta Tweed Heads) picked up the prize for highest individual score, recording 42 points each. 

In total, 61 Junior Girls played 240 competition rounds throughout the holidays.

 

Whilst the Girls Division was decided by just a single point, Greg Brien (Gosford) blew his rivals away with a score of 130 to win by five points in the Boys Division. Brien also played eight times, highlighted by rounds of 40, 44 and 46 points! In that time, the 15 Year-Old Central Coast product took more than seven shots off his handicap.

Storming into second place was Colby Wikinson (Kew), recording rounds of 44 and 42 points in the second week of the holidays to fly up the leaderboard. James Boyd (Goulburn) finished in third on 123 points, one shot clear of Kory Botting (Everglades). Rounding out the top five were early leaders Harry Davies (Antill Park), Kyle Armstrong (Penrith) and Ryan Fletcher (Lynwood) who finished locked together on 121 points. 

Charlie Fennell (Shelly Beach) may have finished in 41st position overall, but the 11 Year Old took out the Iron-Man award for playing the most golf in the holidays. The Central Coast Junior visited a few different clubs throughout the holidays playing an incredible 14 times. The school holidays also happened to provide his ever score of 82 at his home club of Shelly Beach which saw him win the day with 44 points.

Jerry Win (Muirfield) only played one round the holidays but made it count, scoring 48 points to take out the highest individual score.

221 Junior Boys took part in the competition, playing 1072 competition rounds.

 

The Covid Cup Team Challenge was also a succes, with many clubs registering all their juniors to take part. With the most players taking part across all clubs in Australia, Shelly Beach on the NSW Central Coast claimed the $500 Junior Scholarship Prize after juniors Aaron Neville-Smith (119), Archie Morris (114), Charlie Fennell (112) and Harry Tanner (110) combined for 455 points. Hot on thier heels were Cromer (2nd - 448), Goulburn (3rd - 447), Avondale (4th - 444) and Lynwood (5th - 441).

Covid Cup Coming Down to the Wire

(10:00am - Friday 9th October 2020)


The 2020 JNJG School Holiday Challenge "The Covid Cup" is heading down to the wire as just 10 Stableford Points separate the top 50 players on both Boys and Girls Leaderboards.

Stella Payne (Ballina) continues to lead the way in the Girls Division with 115 points, holding a three point lead over Sayaka Iwatani (Twin Creeks) and the in-form Ellie McCormack (Crookwell) who has shot up the leaderbord in week two. Abbigail Grimish (Everglades) sits in outright fourth, just one point further back whilst there's a total of 16 Girls within 10 points of the lead with just three days of competition to play.

The Boys Division is even closer, with an incredible four players sharing the lead on 121 points. Ryan Fletcher (Lynwood) has been joined in the lead by Harry Davies (Antill Park), James Boyd (Toukley) and Kory Botting (Everglades). They lead Central Coast pair Aaron Neville-Smith (Shelly Beach) and Greg Brien (Gosford) by just two points, but the host of challenges doesn't finish there. With three competition days to go, including the all important final weekend, 37 players remain within 10 points of the leaders, with the Covid Cup far from decided.

Fletcher and Payne Take the Lead in Covid Cup

(1:00pm - Tuesday 6th October 2020)


There's less than one week to go of the 2020 JNJG School Holiday Challenge "The Covid Cup" as Ryan Fletcher (Lynwood) and Stella Payne (Ballina) take the lead.

Fletcher has recorded scores of 42 points, 40 points, and 39 points in his six games played to sit on top with a score of 121. He leads Mitchell Carruthers (Richmond) by three points who has managed to have 40 points on two separate occasions. One point further back in a tie for third on 117 points is Strathfield pair Hyun Kim and Ian Kim, James Boyd (Goulburn) and early leader Aaron Neville-Smith (Shelly Beach).

Payne had a fantastic long weekend, playing golf with her brother Oli and sister Franceska on all three days at Ballina. The youngest sibling showed big brother and sister how it's done, shooting to the top of the leaderboard with scores of 38 points, 38 points, and 39 points to give her a total of 115. Sayaka Iwatani (Twin Creeks) is only three points back in outright second on 112 points, with a trio of girls sharing third place two shots further back on 110.

Charlie Fennell (Shelly Beach) continues to take advantage of the school holidays, playing comp an amazing 10 days in a row all over the Central Coast!!!

Central Coast Kids Star in First Week of Covid Cup

(10am - Friday 2nd October 2020)


The 2020 JNJG School Holiday Challenge "The Covid Cup" is approaching the halfway point as kids on the Central Coast take advantage of some beautiful Spring weather to shoot to the top of the leaderboard.

Aaron Neville Smith (Shelly Beach) and Abbigail Grimish (Everglades) lead after the opening six days of competition, with juniors all over the country flocking to their local courses to compete.

Charlie Fennell (Shelly Beach) is really enjoying the school holidays, playing comp EVERY SINGLE DAY so far throughout the holidays. Playing lots of golf is obviously working, as Charlie shot his best ever score yesterday to record 44 points and move into the Covid Cup Top 5.

JNJG School Holiday Challenge – “The Covid Cup”

(12:00pm - Wednesday 16th September 2020)


With juniors not being able to come and play in Jack Newton Junior Golf Tournaments at the moment (thanks to the Coronavirus Pandemic), JNJG has today launched a competition to take place during the upcoming school holidays where we bring our tournaments to you!

Join JNJG Members all around Australia by competing in the upcoming School Holiday Challenge, “The Covid Cup”. Play a minimum of 3 Club Competitions throughout the school holidays to be eligible to win some great prizes. It’s free to register and the more competition rounds you play, the more chances you have to win!!

 

Tournament Rules

  • The Covid Cup is FREE TO REGISTER and open to JNJG Members Australia Wide.

  • The event is for current juniors who are Under 18 at the start of the NSW School Holidays (Saturday 26th September 2020).

  • Any 18 Hole competition round played and entered into Golflink during the upcoming NSW School Holidays will be counted.

  • Play as many competition rounds as you can and your best 3 Stableford Scores will be added together to form your “Covid Cup Total” (Stroke or Par Events will be converted to Stableford Points and also be counted).

  • You don’t have to only play competitions at your home club!!

  • Message your friends and go and have a game with them at their home course (Make sure you check with each club and find out what their current guidelines are around visitors due to the Coronavirus first).

 

Tournament Dates

  • Saturday 26th September to Sunday 11th October 2020.

  • Every competition you play during the upcoming School Holidays will be counted.

 

Tournament Prizes

  • The Champion Boy and Girl will receive a scholarship and exemption into the 2020 Brett Ogle Junior Masters (November) and 2020 North Coast Junior Masters (December) (provided the current guidelines are eased and both of those events go ahead as planned).

  • The Top 3 Boys and Girls will also receive some fantastic prizes, including golf balls, hats, gloves, towels and more!!

  • There will also be individual prizes for the best one-round scores.

 

Covid Cup Team Challenge

  • Get 4 (or more) players from your home club to join in the JNJG School Holiday Challenge - "The Covid Cup" for a chance to win $500 from Jack Newton Junior Golf to put towards your own Junior Program.

  • The best 4 Covid Cup Scores from players from the same club will be added together to get The Coivd Cup Team Challenge score. 

  • The more players from your club that register, the more chances you have to win The Covid Cup Team Challenge. Make sure you invite all your friends from your home club today.
