2015 Fayde Match Play Tournament Preview

96 of the best juniors in the state will head to the Southern Highlands this weekend for the 2015 Fayde Match Play Championships. The two day tournament, hosted at Mount Broughton Golf and Country Club attracts 72 boys and 24 girls, competing across 12 different divisions for what is quickly becoming known as Jack Newton Junior Golf's very own 5th Major.

Eight players in each division are split into Pot A and Pot B, with every player guaranteed three matches ahead of the final on Monday afternoon.

Boys 12 Years and Under

Pot A - Harvey Remfrey, Bart Carroll, Marco Perin, Jeffrey Guan
Pot B - Jeff Fan, Leo Soldo, Brock Speechley, Brij Ingrey

The 12 Years and Under Division is always closely fought, with many players using the recent Primary School State Carnival as preperation for the Match Play. Harvey Remfrey will be out to avenge his 19th hole loss in the final last year, and gets his chance this year as the number 1 seed.

Boys 13 Years

Pot A - Harrison Crowe, Lachlan Jones, Josh Bell, Joshuaa Robards
Pot B - Tom Heaton, Corey Lamb, Oli Payne, Cameron Rios-Ceballos

Number one seed Harrison Crowe heads into the event in good match play form, playing in the St Michael's Eric Apperly team which went deep into the finals. It's a tough age group however, with plenty of matches expected to go down to the wire.

Boys 14 Years

Pot A - Aiden Powter, Luka Brucic, Adam Naaman, Blade Gadd
Pot B - Kaine Andres, Ethan Chambers, Anthony Tan, Andy Li

The 14 years has two defending champions, with Ethan Chambers (12 Years) and Anthony Tan (13 Years) heading into the event as the number three and number five seed, showing just how tough this division is going to be. Aiden Powter takes the number one spot after a stellar 2015, whilst Blade Gadd has plenty of matchplay experience, involved in the Major Pennant winning team from Penrith Golf Club.

Boys 15 Years

Pot A - Luke Ferrier, Jye Pickin, Weiliang Wang, Carter Nepia
Pot B - Chris Fan, Brad Doherty, Kyle Underwood, Clayton Small

All eight players head into the Boys 15 Years division with thoughts of winning, in one of the tightest divisions of the week. Luke Ferrier ends up as the number one seed after a consistent start to 2015 but if there is an upset this week, it could very well come from the Boys 15s.

Boys 16 Years

Pot A - Corey Jones, Jordan Garner, Harry Doig, Reid Brown
Pot B - Jay Mackenzie, James Conran, Jones Comerford, Joshua Gadd

Corey Jones assumes the number one seed, but with five other players part of the JNJG Development Squad and comfortable in the Match Play format, he's going to have to be at his best to win.

Boys 17 Years

Pot A - Blake Windred, Joseph Trinder, Izzy Melia, Dylan Convoy
Pot B - Jason Hong, Corey Rae, Brandon Biddle, Darcy Boyd

NSW Junior Championship Runner Up Blake Windred pips defending champion Jason Hong for the number one seed, with plenty of players looking to end their JNJG Career with the Match Play crown.

Girls 14 Years and Under

Pot A - June Song, Amber Thornton, Monica Johnson, Makensie Toole
Pot B - Stephanie Kyriacou, Grace Kim, Kara Williams, Yerin Kim

Four of the Eight players in the girls 14 Years and Under Division are part of the JNJG Girls Development Squad, with all eight players looking to win the Match Play for the first time.

Girls 15 Years and Over

Pot A - Doey Choi, Chloe Thornton, Bella Kil, Kirsten Convoy
Pot B - Amy Chu, Hannah Park, Danni Vasquez, Lucy Harris

Golf NSW High Performance Squad Member Doey Choi looks to defend her 2014 title, but with seven of the eight players having already had a win on the JNJG Tour this year, it's going to be a tough ask.

Handicap Divisions

The Fayde Match Play Handicap Divisions extend to four for the first time, with 32 players taking part. Positions in the three boys divisions and one girls division were snapped up, with Gabrielle Beohm, Ethan Keane, and James Dickinson amongst the field looking to defend titles from 2014.

Play begins early on Sunday Morning, with the opening round matches before players complete their second match on Sunday Afternoon. The round robin concludes Monday morning with match three, before the winner of each pot advances to the final on Monday Afternoon.
