Josh Hunter and Chloe Thornton with DGA President Tony Brown

In July the ACT hosted a Junior Week of Golf.  The four-day tournament was only held because of the wonderful co-operation of the local clubs and the wonderful assistance given to run each day.

Day 1 Murrumbidgee

On Monday 6th July our winter Junior Week of Golf started at Murrumbidgee. The morning started cold and foggy and 44 eager juniors were ready to play.

Day 2 Belconnen

Tuesday at Belconnen the fog had lifted just before play began and all 44 players enjoyed the clear skies and sunshine. From the clubhouse the view over the surrounding mountains was spectacular. After nine holes the players picked up lunch at the BBQ before tackling the back nine.

Josh Hunter again recorded 74, this time three shots ahead of the field. The nett winner was Donald Roberts from Capital with 70, ahead of Jarrod Woolmer from Russell Vale with 71. In the Stableford division Belconnen member Patrick Pigram recorded a very good result of 39 points, two points ahead of Silka Solomon from Yowani and Mitch O’Brien from Queanbeyan. Day 3 Yass

On Wednesday players were up early for the bus trip to Yass we departed from Capital at 7.30am with second pick up at Gungahlin Lakes and then ready to play at Yass by 9.30am. The weather was fine and sunny and juniors were looking forward to a good golfing day. Sub Juniors Tom Hogbin-Bourne, Matilda Sullings, Savanah and Chanel Roso all enjoyed their visit to Yass and the opportunity to join with some players from Yass for nine holes.

Players were treated to a great BBQ stop after 8 holes and then after play they could challenge themselves to a chipping competition then have a go at driving straight or long. The girls who played first had a little extra practice with the chipping and sometimes practice does not always help. Prizes if you got the ball into the sand in the box trailer included wrapped prizes and some envelopes with money on offer
