Junior Girls Golf in the Hunter

The Hunter River Ladies District has been working hard in recent months to increase junior girls participation in the region.

Due largely to the passionate junior promotions officer Natalie Wood who in two years of service has introduced multiple single day programs and now grown into the first two day Girls camp.

Throughout the region Natalie has worked closely with Mark Ingrey from Jack Newton Junior Golf to build a solid group of young girls who enjoy each other’s company and golf.  Together this formula has seen participation levels increase and we all hope if continues.

During the month Natalie and Mark provided a two-day camp at host venue Cypress Lakes Resort.  The two-day camp was all about developing key skills that would help each girl to build their own game further with newfound knowledge and skills.

Seven girls attended the camp from Scone, Singleton, The Vintage, Cypress Lakes and Cessnock with each enjoying their overnight stay as an added bonus.  The girls aged between 6 and 13 learnt all aspects of the game including beginner strength and conditioning and stretching.

The best part of the camp was a welcome visit by one of the Hunters female professionals, Janelle Smith (Charlestown GC) who took the time to discuss her path from junior girls golf into the professional ranks and to her current home as professional at Charlestown GC.  Janelle then took the girls through some putting skills, games and competitions, which was extremely well received.

Natalie Wood and Mark Ingrey would like to thank all the supporters and sponsors who help make these events come to life; Cypress Lakes Resort, Piggs Peake Wines, Elysia Spa, Hunter River DGA and Cessnock City Motors.  Each girl was presented with a Cessnock City Motors Cap embroided with the “Girls Camp 2016”

Jack Newton Junior Golf and Mark Ingrey can not thank Natalie Wood enough for her continued hard work and passion for girls in golf.  Keep up the great work and look forward to continuing our partnership.
