JNJG Free Golf Lessons a Great Success

(2:30pm - Friday 5th June 2020)

With many kids and parents not sure what to do with their time during isolation, no junior clinics being held and not many other sports being played, Jack Newton Junior Golf thought this was the time to come up with a new initiative to get kids out playing golf!!

So during the month of May, JNJG worked with driving range facilities and golf clubs throughout NSW to host free mini one on one junior golf lessons to give kids that haven’t play golf before the chance to see what it is all about. The days were a great success across all the facilities and the professionals could not believe how many kids came along to the lessons.

Most facilities held two separate 2-hour sessions with between 14 & 30 kids having lessons and most importantly having fun. These sessions came at a great time as Golf Australia announced that junior golf clinics could begin again mid-May, so many all these kids that loved their free lessons could come back for more by participating in weekly clinics with other kids.

Moss Vale Golf Club was one of the facilities that participated and over the 2 Saturday sessions they had more than 20 kids come along and give golf a go. Seeing the success of these days, club professional Davyd Reeves and Community Coach Chris Dalzell decided to launch a 5-week junior program during Term 2 and invited all the kids that came to the free lessons to join. The programs quickly filled up and forced the coaches to create a third program so no one missed out!

This great initiative has captured many kids that would never have tried golf before and now they are hooked.

One little boy by the name of Jackson who is only 5 year old (pictured below) even expressed to his dad after his lesson that he had decided what he wanted to be when he grew up. His words were “I want to be a golfer and teach kids how to play golf.” Jackson has since then received a golf club and some practice soft balls and has not stopped practicing in his backyard and even in the house during the rain! He has now joined a club program and is on his way to become a professional golfer!

JNJG would like to thank the facilities that got involved which were, Mark Churcher Golf Range, The Ridge Driving Range, Moss Vale Golf Club, Newcastle Golf Practice Centre, Coffs Harbour Driving Range, Thornleigh Golf Centre and Aqua Golf Hunter Valley.

Great Opportunity to get your Child into Golf

The Corona Virus has certainly thrown a curve ball at us all.  With our way of life turned upside down and many of our normal activities being cancelled or postponed JNJG have come up with an excellent way to introduce new children to the game of golf.

Working with a number of golfing facilities across the state, JNJG is helping provide free one on one mini golf lessons to those children who have never tried golf before.

All lessons are completely FREE and all equipment can be provided.  This initiative is also being run in accordance with strict social distancing measures.

Opportunities are available at various facilities across NSW (see the flyers below).

What a great way to introduce your child to the game of golf especially during a time when many sports are not able to operate.

Make the most opportunity now and contact the closest centre to you.
