A Jack Newton Junior Golf representative team of Chantal Hodson, Cathleen Santoso, Jake Higginbottom and Ricky Kato represented JNJG in the Callaway World Junior Championships in San Diego, USA.
This junior tournament is considered the largest junior tournament in the world with over 1000 players and 25 countries involved. Played on the beautiful Torrey Pines layout it was a trip to be remembered by all players.
As well as the golf the players will experience the USA lifestyle with plenty of trips to the burger shops, outlet shopping and of course Sea World and Disneyland.
Golf Update
In the boys event both Ricky Kato (Bonnie Doon GC) and Jake Higginbottom (The Australian GC) qualified for the final days play. This is a task in itself with over 200 boys in the field and only the top 60 qualifying for the final day. Jake was the best placed Australian finishing at 6 over par in tied 18th place. Ricky found form at the end of the week to finish the tournament at 11 over par in equal 31st place. Australia had two other players participating in the boys 15-17 division. Jake McLeod (QLD) finished in 44th place, while Ben Croft (WA) missed the cut by one stroke.
In the girls event Cathleen Santoso (The Lakes GC) finished in equal 21st spot at 3 over par. The other JNJG member Chantal Hodson (The Australian GC) missed the cut. Other Australian players in the 15-17 girls division included Tatiana Wijaya (WA) who finished the best placed Australian at 2 over par in equal 17th position. The other Australian member Emily McLennan (QLD) started well with a first round of 2 under par but was unable to back this up in round 2 and 3 and missed the cut.
