Strong Roll-up from Cadet Players

Participation in the 9 Hole Cadet Competition at Guyra Golf and Bowling Club was strong with 11 boys and girls showing strong form as they come to grips with the subtleties and techniques of the game of golf.  Overall we had 22 players from Armidale, Tamworth, Guyra, Gunnedah, Moree, Uralla, Inverell and Longyard participate in a cool morning in Guyra.

The Cadet Boys competition was a tight affair with Luke Devney (Moree) holding off Cooper Smith (Uralla) by 2 shots to take home the biscuits.  Further good rounds were completed by Ayden McGuire (Moree), Sam Carter (Moree) and Aiden Smith (Uralla).  The Cadet Girls division was won by Jacqui Dade (Uralla) from Mia Clark (Uralla).

The Junior Boys division had a disappointingly low turnout but that did not stop Toby Cooper (Armidale) handing in a great score of 74 off the stick.  This result was too good for Lachlan Fleming (Tamworth) and Henry Sindel (Armidale).  The Junior Girls division delivered another victory for Breanna Purse (Moree).

Five players, mainly locals from the Guyra Golf and Bowling Club participated in the Tyro 5 hole competition and it is hoped that these young players will start to move through the pathway to become 9 hole cadet players before too long.

We now have a considerable break in the middle of the year before the next scheduled NIOOM event at Gunnedah on Sunday August 6th.  We had a record field at Gunnedah last year and we hope to see a good roll-up again in August.

For those of you who have not yet updated your calendars for the re-scheduled Armidale Junior Open Day, you can lock in Sunday October 1st for the big day.  Whilst we realise that this date coincides with the NRL Grand Final, there are not that many Sundays available after each club finalises their calendars for the year.  Hopefully, an early start to the day will allow enough time for those NRL fans to get home to see the big event.

I look forward to seeing you all in Gunnedah.
